The only reason I am pumping ut progress right now is because the chemical plant is slow during winter so I basically set my own hours and days..today so far for the last 4 hours i've just been chilling in my office browsing the internets all day :icon16:
Oh , I also get my head back monday or tuesday ..seems like it was salvageable :naughty:

Depending on your tuning you should be putting down around 300fwhp. If you put a really good tune on the car you should be somewhere around 325fwhp. The E316g is a good turbo, I cant decide whether I want to go with that one or a 20g. I want a turbo that spools quick but that will also make me spin more. A 20g would spool slower helping keep wheel spin down and will make more power easier.

I'm not sure what I want to put to the ground as of yet..as before I still need to figure out about a 1K worth of stuff such as a management system and cams ( Crower - 64462T-2 ). If I use some more aggressive cams I may be able to achieve that kind of power without an issue..another thing I am doing though is I am port matching and doing some heavy duty grinding/polishing on the head and intake manifold to ensure maximum flow with no hang ups.
I've got the head going 1mm over and with all the stuff I am going to be putting against it I am concerned the flow won't be effecient enough to produce that type of power. So with that , I'm trying to get ahold of a machine shop that does a lot of 'custom' work and see if I can get the runners cut down and have the I/M a single piece with basically the injectors right after the TB..we'll see.
Another one of my big projects over the next week or so is talke to some people that do custom timing applications and see if there i a way I can get a custom timing chain made within -3/+3 of timing belt...we'll see on that as well. My main focus is to build the motor and then not blow it up lol...now it's the weekend and everyone in Utah is closed..it sucks.

The stock 420a head flows really well, unless you can get it ported really cheap then the money is better off being put into something else. The stock cams flow good to, alot of people prefer stock cams over aftermarket so make sure you do your research on that to make sure you know what you going to get. That also means your not going to pick up a lot of power with them.
Porting the intake mani is a good idea, also you may want to go to a bigger TB. You can have the stock TB bored to a max of 57mm, but you can also fit a 60mm jeep TB on the 420a.
I wouldn't recommend cutting down the the intake runners, its not a good idea. Also putting your injectors closers to the TB is a bad idea. The injectors HAVE to be close to the valves because when you at idle then isin't much air going into the motor and your car wont idle for shit. The gas will take to long to get to the motor.
Why do you want to run a timing belt? This is a waste of money also, and no one has done it as far as I know. The timing belts we have now work perfectly fine, no reason to change it. Thats just going to make your motor build go up even more.
Make sure you do research before you start to make all of these changes and know the effects it will have on your motor. You may just be wasting time and money with little to no gains.

I just want a mild application. One good for DD and one for a track day. I'm getting all the port match done either way with or without aftermarket cams just to ensure maximum flow and atomization.

What year of jeep ? Also , are the sensors the same or will I have to change more than just a TB ?

I'm not moving the injectors further away from the valves but moving the intake closer to the head instead of having 10"s of phenolic tubing. The injectors will be in the same location as a factory intake manifold however the tubular can top side piece of the intake manifold ( yeah the round thingy lol ) will be moved closer to the head.

You mena a timing chain ? Well I prefer timing chain over a belt any day because they are longer lasting and more reliable under stress and extreme pressure applications. It won't cost too much with the way I plan to do it =) and if it can be done then I think it could change the aftermarket scene for the 420A quite a bit and open up my car for higher tuning. I'm also not really concerned about how much it will cost me in the end for a project like this..if I was overly worried about it I would have gotten a cheap ass honda hatch back or something like that.

Check 2gnt for the jeep TB mod. You have to alter it a little but its not to bad. The intake mani is designed specifically for each motor. Changing the volume in it WILL effect your motors power output. I believe making it have less volume will give you less power in low rpms. Not sure if you would gain anything up top either. Thats a pretty touchy subject and might need some input from Kevin.
I still think a timing chain is worthless. Changing all the pulleys over to a spocket. Making sure that everything still stays timed perfectly. And a chain will be louder than a belt. I just dont see the point to changing to a chain. It may last longer than 60k but it just sounds like a PITA to do. If people run 500+ hp cars on a timing belt I think it is good enough for your application

Hmm just depends on what your looking at for hookin up. I loved the eagle rs-a's until they went bald..literally bald..but before they grabbed like a mofo and provided a smooth , quiet ride for a tire with minimal flexing :2cents:

Well my suspension rides a little higher than I'd like so I am going to mount them on my parts cars rims and see if the will bolt up then without rubbing.
I know stock is like 205/55 or something like that but the rims I have are also a little wider than the stock 16" gGS's so we'll see.
I may also look into some custom fender rolling =) With a HP goal of 350-ish to the wheels..I'm going to need some serious rubber / ground contact anyways so that was already in future plans. Or..I was also considering maybe finding someone I can trade some all around 225/50/16's with ..I know quite a few people in the aftermarket scene and people always going through parts so I may be able to trade / barter with them as well if they won't fit =)

I am diggin the looks of the OBX fuel rail but I am wondering if it will be a waste of money ? Will the OEM fuel rail be sufficient for a 190 lph fuel pump and some 350 injectors ?

Upgrading the fuel rail is a waste. I would run the 255 pump since you have to buy one anyways, then you will have to get some kind of FPR. Your fuel management system will determine what FPR to get. You will need to install a fuel return line. Go ahead and get some bigger injectors also. 350's will max around 14-15psi or boost.

I would like to run between 17 - 20 psi , anythning other than fuel pump , FPR and return line as far as fuel goes ? I was thinking the 350's would be enough but you turbo'd your 420A way before me so I take lots of your advice =D

OBX fuel rails are prone to leaking anyways. Stay away from them. Just polish up the stocker if you want shiny ;)
I recommend upgrading to SS fuel line also. Will make everything easier when working with it. I have an extra 4ft of -6an line of you want and an extra 420a fuel rail -6an adapter also which you'll need. Just letting you know.

I would go with 440's as the min. Like I said, it depends on what fuel management your going with. If you going to run MS then go ahead and get 650's or so. Never hurts to have more fuel available. If you want to go with the SFMU the you might be able to hit 20psi with 440's.
Those 350's are just to small to be running on a built motor. Your putting so much money in it already you dont want to be limited on power because of your injectors.

My mentality is different than what I want and what I need. I would rather buy a new set of plug wires during winter than tires. I like to live life on the edge =P
Although I did see some wicked cool tires at the tire place. I think they were called AZENIS or something ? I don't know but the tread pattern was cool as hell.

I'm also stuck on something..I am going to probably be putting the basics of my block together this weekend ie : piston / rods / crank / main / head / water pump / harmonic balancer and other small things of the sort but I don't know what I need to do for my main bearings. I had the motor bored .020 over does that mean I also need .020 over main bearings or should I stick with the .000 oem spec ?
This is a crucial part and I would appreciate as much help as possible with this !

I swapped the 2 rear tires off my parts car onto the front of my RS because now the belts are poking through and I really don't need them blowing out at 80 mph :/
Are you kidding? Holy shit, If my tires got anywhere near not having a thread pattern I would replace them immediately. Your nuts driving arounds on those slicks. Get some new tires man.

Here it rains so often and it stays so moist that bald tires like that would definately cause a wreck.

You need to measure your crank journals to see what bearings you need. Unless you spin a bearing or have scratches on the journals you should be able to go with OEM spec ones. But I would measure just to be sure. Also you should have had the crank polished

I'm almost up to 30k miles total on it already... :(
I bought it with 25k and the tires with only 1/4 of the tread remaining...
I don't think a cobalt is capable of doing that lol..
Actually, these things have terrible traction and I can fry the tires off clear through 3rd gear. lol
I've only done that a few times just to see if I could do it and because I was bored. I definitely don't wanna beat the hell out of it and break anything though. Just did it out of curiosity. lol
Any suggestions for a good set of tires for me? lol

I meant impress the panties off a chick =P It's a cobalt..chevrolets cheap version of a tuner. Leave it to GM to jack everything up with their sunfires and cobalts and such forth and ford to jack it up with the escort zx2 and the focus...tsk tsk.

I believe in beating on cars on a regular basis. I mean, not constantly, but semi-regularly. I believe if you drive a car semi-hard, throughout its life, that it will actually last longer.

I believe this to, I drive my car pretty hard sometimes and the thing is still running awesome. It has been turboed for 1.5 years and is still running. I figured it would blow within a year or so. The motor isin't going to last forever and Im just waiting for the rings to completely fail. Hopefully my build motor will be ready by then.
