Lol, it had me going. Nice catch silver, and good assist dave.

Now about the CC, if its a manual, why do yu have CC? I have a 98 RS and I don't have the controls.

Well I am basically converting my RS into a RS-T with all power options and a added turbo kit..the only difference is I won't have a sunroof but power mirrors , power doors , power locks , rear wiper , cruise control , fogs lights , 4 wheel disc brakes , few other things here and there I will have =)

If you push the clutch in or take the car out of gear with the cruise control on the ECU will dissable cruise control just like if you hit the brakes.

Actually mine never did. I remember playing with it because I always thought it should ideally do that, but mine never did. Only when I hit the brakes it would shut off.

I wanted power locks and windows and have been thinking about that conversion for awhile. But knowing me I'd probably screw something up. I still want the full sunroof though. Been trying to find info about the size and placement with those.

I say go targa top on any car without a sunroof

Then you need the role cage, and the support. I have that gay flip-up deal, but I want one that goes all the way back.

Are the 'pop up' types set up the same way as far as the the metal lay out of the roof cuz if they are then I have the power sunroof out of the GS as well ( yes I checked all the electronics to make sure they work lol ) so if they are , let me know.

See I don't know. Which is why I've been looking for one to try to size up and fit it to see how it is. That does mean tearing off the headliner and spending some time on it, but I could never find one for cheap. All on ebay they wanted big $$ for them.

Lol..yeah no problem man. I've actually been doing a lot of stripping on the GS car this weekend pulled out everything in the engine bay and all large interior pieces.

As for my RS I would like the sunroof thing but i've already invested so much money into the RS that it's not worth it to me to just strip it down and move it all over to another car or anything. Maybe if I can find a 1995 - 1995 prestine GS shell for cheap i'll go that route but the "red rocket" is definently my passion car.

side note : anyone know the curb weight difference of the RS and GS ?

JoeShmoe
01-27-2008, 11:16 PM
Well that blows, it doesn't work on my nissan. And I'm pretty angry my RS doesn't have it:loser:

Oh well, less weight and less for it to go wrong.

LOL, I'm 6' or 6'1" on a hot day. I didn't like how it looked and this is the first hatchback I've ever owned. It was new to me and I couldn't deal with it so I trashed it. How much are you asking for yours?

20.00 + shipping I guess :/

I've owned a few hatch style cars and I must say the eclipse has been the kindest to me out of all of them..being 6'4 and all..I can see right over the spoiler in the rear view without it clogging up my view. In my 1993 MX-3 it sucked bad..friggin dual spoiler thingy stuck up 6"s or so up the window but that car was way more hatchy than the eclipse.

Ok I need to order a engine rebuild kit with all the gaskets, o - rings , studs , bearings and will probably be doing so this week so I can start putting my motor together however I don't know who has the best kit for the 420A - opinions ?

Im in the same place. Looking for a place to order all of my parts from. You can check out Slowboyracing, Extremepsi, and howellautomotive but those sites only carry a few parts for the 420a. Howellautomotive carries a good bit but they are pretty high and some people have trouble with their shipping.

Let me know if anyone finds a good website for the 420a.

david-b
01-28-2008, 08:37 AM
I've had nothing but problems with Howell and would say stay away.

That's bull about not being able to see over the spoiler. You seen the 97-98 Talon spoiler? That thing is right up on the back window and you get a line right through the window when looking back. Good thing is that if there's a car with massive bright lights on driving behind you, I speed up/slow down enough so that the spoiler is blocking the lights. Also gives great distance. lol

JoeShmoe
01-28-2008, 01:51 PM
I couldn't do it dave. I tried backing up and I was like......ok, how far ca I go before I bump into somehting. LOL

As soon as I could, i took it off and taped the holes.:icon16:

Well..now begins the head work while I try to find a gasket/bearing/seal kit for the 420A :(

A clean head to start with helps then once valves and seats and all that grooved up cheddar ball crap is removed I will toss it in a caustic solution bath.

Hmm...more than i'd like to have considering since only about 15 - 20 % of it is actually installed on the car but the last time I added everything up it's about 4.1K deep in my pocket book right now lol... I should only have about another 1K left before the motor is completely ready for install. All I have left to figure out is a timeline lol and what I am going to do for a management system. I get all my cleaning done for free though through Pro Machine here in SLC since I ordered so much shit from them when I swapped my 305 v-8 to a 383.

I just pulled out all the clips ,springs and valves...did it all by hand since I can't find my spring compressor..oh well..nothing a 24" 3/8's extension capped with a 5/8's socket won't fix and a little bit of muscle =)

edit : oh I am going to spend a shit load of time getting rid of seams on the head and on the intake manifold and do some serious grinding on the IM the open the whore up some more and maybe a few other small details..I have a 100 page notebook with my plans and parts and budget all worked out and i've been sticking to it but the last few pages have the minor touch up details I wanted to do and the got wet and the ink ran so I have to figure it out as I go...lol..man I suck :(

It's a good thing to do that way you won't lose track of what you want and you can also create a budget for yourself if you need to and you won't get sidetracked by insignificant things like "should I have chrome plated IM studs or blackened steel" you know what I mean ?

Another thing you can do ( like what I did ) is also use it to inventory , catagorize and basically seperate out parts and modifyables into sections such as transmission , head , block , crank , electronics , suspension and such for then go through and individually mark off things you have written down and check them off as you complete them..the only thing I have completed on my whole project is my transmission :(

Ok I might need a little advice on this as it's pissing me off because of the time its taking >:( How in the hell should I go about polishing the intake manifold so it has a smooth look and doesn't have such deep disgustingly visible pores ? I've been using my dremel for about 20 minutes and I have 1/10'th of a runner done..lol

JoeShmoe
01-30-2008, 07:43 AM
For the intake mani, don't you have to grind that shit! A dremel bight be good for the inside but the outside I would have to say a bench grinder for the large visible part.

SilvrEclipse
01-30-2008, 08:55 AM
I dont know about a bench grinder. I would use a dremel for the tight spots, maybe a small wheel grinder for the parts it can reach. And then go get one of thost drill accessories that is used to strip paint. Its a very rough disk, and use that to smooth everything back together.

I don't have any family left so I don't have anyone to chew me out about stuff like that and my boss/co-workers are mostly weirdos and keep to themselves.

You live at home still ? Need to get out on your own it's much, much better.

Side note..I dropped the head today on the concrete and a little rock smashed up around the valve seat so it might be seriously jacked up..Pro Machine is cleaning it , going to inspect it and if everything is cool bore it 1mm over and install my valve kit so cross your fingers everyone :banghead:

So I see EVO III on that turbo? That the regular Big Evo or another model. Not the best with the naming of turbos. How much boost you going to be running that at?

How much hp are you looking to put down?

MazdaX
02-01-2008, 12:02 PM
Well I am going to wait on my final decision for a management system to see what I can max out at. The 16g isn't going to be installed for a while but I have another turbo with some shot blades I may use for the break in period.

For the time I am looking only for about 250-ish fwhp but i've 'heard' of people getting in excess of 350+ fwhp on the 2gn/t.

Dave, all Evo III's are the same, theres no 'big' or 'small' or 'normal' versions, just companies trying to make theirs stand out from the rest.
