I've seen plastic tarps used before, but never a complete wrapping in bubble wrap. I often wonder if owners have any idea what happens to their F1s during transport? This was #018 leaving NZ for the UK - my guess, prior to the F1 Tour last year.

http://i50.tinypic.com/rc0s5t.jpg

Now I'm no expert when it comes to shipping a car, but am I the only one who thinks this elevated shipping palette idea looks a bit sketchy?? :yikes:

http://i49.tinypic.com/9t1s9v.jpg

Hopefully that was just part of the unloading process from the flatbed, and not how the car went for the whole trip.

These kind of cars I think the money isn't any big thing. If you say, "I want that and that to the transport", it will arranged. :grinyes:

I found the outfit who did the shipping - they are indeed professionals, so perhaps I shouldn't second guess their work. I was just a bit surprised when I first saw the image.

For last years Paris-Dakar rally I was at Schiphol airport to do some photographing of a car transport inside an airplane, and there was a McLaren MP-4/12C in as well. And McLaren themselve didn't take any special precaution to avoid damage onto the paintjob.

I wonder if the workers knew how much the car was worth...

I remember that arriving and being slightly surprised at the bubble wrap. I contemplated sending the owner a joke about wrapping it in cotton wool but thought better of it!

I actually thought it had a bit of a stutter or strange sound in the lower rev range. Not sure what was up with that?

I was thinking he was in too high of a gear with too low revs. I've not heard another F1 sound like that before this one.

The F1's V12 is very tractable from low revs - it shouldn't bog or stutter like that even in a higher gear. I think the Roundel article with Mr Selldorff talked about being able to drive it in third gear all the time.

You are, of course, correct. My second guess would be a problem with the exhaust system, and we are hearing something rattling. However, that doesn't account for why it seems to disappear at higher revs.

I would also say that just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should. Even if Mr. Selldorff drove around in third all the time, I don't believe he kept his cars long enough, or put enough miles on them to determine if driving in that fashion was detrimental to the drivetrain. I am referring to the ones he had in the U.S., perhaps he drove the first one he bought (007?) in Europe more.

Not sure Mr Selldorff ever kept an F1 in Europe. There was rumor that #068 was kept there, but given it only had 170 miles on it when Richard took delivery, and it had supposedly been stored at the New Jersey port for several years, I don't think that rumor was ever true.

Here's the best photo we've seen of #006's interior:

Chassis 023 was displayed on the 11th of January in Cape Town, South Africa at the L'Ormarins Queen's Plate 2014 - a local horse racing event in its 153rd year. It is now sponsored by the F1 owner's personal vineyard, L’Ormarins Wine Estate, since 2005 which shares the same grounds as the museum he keeps his amazing car collection.

Their sign could use some help, but close enough I guess.

Interestingly the event is closed to minors and the dress code which is strictly enforced requires everyone to wear only blue and white. I think I need tickets for next year. :D

Cool, this is the first shot of the F1 & P1 together, right?

There have been a few pics of an F1 and a P1 together - mostly from dealerships and also from Goodwood where the P1 was nestled behind XP1LM and #20R on separate plinths

This is the first as far as I can remember of a customer P1 with an F1

Of course have both #046's together would be a good shot too.....
