Luckily I know well enough Mr. Pong and mr. Ping to have other decals already in the stash LOL

But not to LOL for the dammn TS13. I want to try it over a 2k: a final light finishing of TS13 would be fantastic but if it etch also the 2k.....

what is those? Napalm? Radioactive wastes? Or worst de-colored Coke?

Gio, I think this unfortunately isn't problem of TS'13. The same problem appered on the roof of my 612er, but it was painted Gunze Silver Black (or something like that) and clearcoted with the Gunze Super Clear. The problem must be in the plastic. I had to strip all the paint and put a Tamiya putty all over the body. That solved this problem.

Now I have to search something about those crappy Revell plastic used in latest issues, someone found a solution? I guess I'll post a thread on the common section asking for help.....

Ouch, what a nightmare. :uhoh: :runaround:I've had it happen a couple of times, and there are few things more frustrating. :banghead:

If I had to guess, I'd say that it will take a full stripping and repainting. It looks like the silver was softened, and the metallic elements in it have 'lifted'. The same effect could easily have happened with the red body, but even if the solid color was softened you may not see it- you only see it in the metallic because the metallic bits shifted.

What was the body primed with?

I would of course strip in alcohol. It will definately remove the TS, and if there is some issue with the Revell plastic it's less likely to react with alcohol than DOT.

Hey Gioc, you could try an "used" scangy version with dust, mud and so on. Just to save your job.

What do you think about it?

I am trying to get this finished before the end of the year since Iwould like to finish at least one Ferrari in 2007 to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the marque.

This has been sitting in a shoe box for nearly a year now I guess.

I started off by putting together the p/e front grille.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/612%20China%20Tour/WIP/612-grille_02.jpg

Then huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge amounts of masking :runaround:

All the interior to put down the black trim, the window surrounds and the side windows - 3 days' worth in total. phew!!!

Seat has been detailed with craft ribbon and spare p/e sprue.

Test fit of the interior so far and a mock-up.

New headlight covers.

The kit parts are quite thick and don't sit very well so I tried to see if I could do any better using smash forming technique. Seems to have come out pretty OK and I will probable go with these.

It feels good to be doing her again (oops!) but her sister will still be sitting in her shoe box and will be there for some time yet I fear

I used Vallejo Air Acrylics (my favorite paints)
the mix was:

4 drops of Vallejo thinner nr 061 (in my experience Valejo hates Tamiy thinner and also the Vallejo thinner has some kind of satin varnish properties IMO)
4 drops of Vallejo Black nr 057
1 drop of Black grey nr 056

Hi Steve,

progess on grill, window trim and interior looks great.

Some years ago I tried the candle-light-method without success, but I keep it in my mind for small parts

Hello Steve,
Nice you started this one again!
Makes me think I should work on it also......
But, not for the moment. I have to clean and change my garage, as I want to install my lathe, so.....
But, as I said earlier, it's a really nice car.

Season's greetings.

Finishing up is a longer process than I thought it would be :s

I stretched some clear sprue, cut and sanded it to shape and dipped it in clear orange for some side markers, I made them a little under-scaled as I don't want a big orange blob on the side of the car (let's keep the attention on the decals, huh? :evillol: :naughty: )

Maskol in action. I believe this job is much easier with liquid masking than by using regular masking tape.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/612%20China%20Tour/WIP/side-mirrorrs_01.jpg

When I tried to fix the windows in place, I realized that the fit was AWFUL. I decided to cut them up and either not have the larger window or have it partially opened (decision later). I used Dymo printer tape as a guide and my trusty PE saws.

Care to tell us how you got the straight edge on the liquid mask?

Care to tell us how you got the straight edge on the liquid mask?
Thanks Andy

There is actually a division line molded into the part and I just let nature take its course and the Maskol run into it :naughty:

I have found that in most cases this masking liquid will work well in that way and that it will run reasonably well into wider areas and well defined lines. The trick is to work reasonably fast and in small/medium doses with a fine brush. Once it has started to set up, forget trying to fix it as it will just pull off with the brush - start again.

I have also recently been experimenting with thinning it out with water. It works but I still haven't worked out the optimal "thinness".

I am total liquid mask convert - next step is to try thinning it and airbrushing it  (and then drinking it!)

Awesome! Thank you so much, you're a class act Klutzy :)
My formula for trim 'rubber' is xf1:2 x18:1 xa20:2 which gives a very realistic looking rubber imho (the 'mattness' tends to mute/grey it out a little bit), but as soon as you touch it it gets shiny, also your Vallejo looks extremely smooth. I will try it for sure, thanks bro'. Btw, great idea on the windows, I'm gonna make my Modena windows detachable for that Cali Summer look :)

I am working pretty fast (so far) on the Silver Sister but will update only with things that I do differently than with the red version.

First of all though, I corrected my mistake on the red car and re-painted the headlight fittings the correct color.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/612%20China%20Tour/WIP/re-paint-headlights.jpg

To speed things up and help simplify some of the fit issues, this one is going to be a “light” version and is engine and differential frei :D

Just the bottom part of the engine will be fitted as there is a small part of it visible through the underside panel. The lack of differential at the rear should also solve to a large degree the fit issue between chassis, interior tub and body at the rear of the car

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/612%20China%20Tour/WIP/hood-cheat_01.jpg

also, being curbside, it allows me to cut off the source of the bad hood fit and glue it shut

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/612%20China%20Tour/WIP/hood-cheat_02.jpg

I experimented with some pre-shading on the upholstery using a pigment marker .

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/612%20China%20Tour/WIP/interior-pre-shading_01.jpg

Ultimately the effect is very subtle as I was a little heavy handed with the color coats but it did actually „work”. Tthe 1/1 had a black interior which would have saved a loooad of maskimg but I wanted to try a custom color instead.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/612%20China%20Tour/WIP/interior-pre-shading_02.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/612%20China%20Tour/WIP/color-scheme_01.jpg

I am using the rotors from the Lioan Loar p/e set on this car. They have a curious design (the calipers are a “sandwich” of 6 pieces) but they actually look very good. Another advantage of these rotors is that they will allow you to easily fix Revell’s biggest mistake in the kit – the brake calipers being the wrong way round (I won’t be doing this though as I don’t want the 2 cars to be glaringly different in this respect).

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/612%20China%20Tour/WIP/lion-roar-rotors.jpg
