Hey hilarius guys: I'm a little less since I'm playing with brake fluid since a couple days: luckily is stuff out of this topic :D.

I tried to finish my Chinese girl in time for the AFMOTY but I realized that some shortcut was necessary... since no rush is my motto... and more seeing upside-down how Baden Powell said regarding " don't do tomorrow how that you're able to do today" yes I was a wolf-cub :D LOL

Oki I'm ready to paint interiors: after some research I see that the silver car have basically black interiors (with alu insert) and normal seats, insthead the red girl have tan interiors and dayto seats. Mine have also manual gear, and the red kind have F1 stuff.

Since I guess that with my photo skills I'll show just a black stain, better i try to show something of my interior's job before painting. As Robij said a good way to add detail is... cut and pull apart pieces... cool guy Robij, I'll follow his tip :D

Well every new step of this work I have to clash against the reality of this RoG stuff, and I guess it isn't the worst they done :D. BTW I decided for some radical actions: I'm not Mida-King Auw12 :D:evillol: (see his scangi's int.)


Step 1: I designed and done a little PE set with some pieces I've in mind, steering wheel, seats and grills stuff.

Not very clean and a bit oxided due to old chemicals but just a light sanding and I'll have cool pieces to use.

Step 2: Steering wheel:

there I had to play with teh possibility to etch a different design in the two sides of the PE so with some offsets I do housing for switch etc. The result is just a fitting test and need some little adj. in the back of the plastic Rog wheel.

Step 3: Seats:

I cutted out belts, rescribed all, also spaces under former belts, and do some fitting jobs with light curing putty and sanding paper to achieve the 2 shells design the real thing have: rear have to house-in the front one. I guess you'll understand other details from pix:

Last step: I cutted out the rear speaker grill and scribed all lines, added a couple of panel lines that the model haven't: preview:

Done some jobs also in the dashboard: scribed lines and drilled vents holes, I'll use my vents. Note the little (2mm wide) BOSE logo to polish and add to speakers :D

Interior.


Just so you know, the redhead of this pair of China Girls has seats with the "Daytona" upholstery pattern – so of course Revell kindly decided to mold the kit with the other style :banghead:

This has brought my build to a grinding halt for the past 2 months. The prospect of modifying this just totally daunted me.
On top of that, it come just after Tang shared his mind boggling seats with us – talk about a hard act to follow... :uhoh:

At first I was pretty intimidated by the idea of changing the pattern but then I remembered hiroaki's great 550M thread with his scratch built seats and this put an idea in my head that seemed feasible.

Basically my plan was to grind down the Revell pattern, make a master “Daytona” pattern, cast it, cut out shaped inserts and glue them in place. Sounded simple enough.

Now some pics for those of you who don't like reading my prose ;)


First thing I did was to carve off the molded in seat belts, add some styrene bits to simulate hardware and put p/e cavallinos on the headrests. (FYI at some point in the process I mixed up some bottles and tried to wash the seats with acetone – that's why they look so crap :( )

Next thing was to make the pattern. I did this by cutting 1, 1,5 and 2mm strips of styrene and cementing them to some styrene sheet. One master for the front seats ad one for the rear seats.

This was pretty time consuming and tedious and I started rushing it – first paving stone on the road to hell...

Once I had my 2 masters I made a silicone mold of them.

I decided to make resin copies because my assumption was that the chances of me cutting and trimming to a good fit first time were less than zero and I really didn't feel like cutting another million little styrene strips.

With a mold, I could simply re-cast another set.

The resin master was cut into the appropriate 8 pieces, the templates applied and the pieces cut out.

IMO this was a pretty good idea that didn't work out as well as it was supposed to. Not because the idea was bad but because I just didn't execute it well enough :[

That aside, if you're unhappy with the result, why not remove the whole area with the pattern from the plastic seat completely (as in to the point when there is a gaping hole in the sear:screwy: ) and insert your resin Daytona pattern instead?

Prize isn't well deserved :D , really the result seem good: as Ales said all you need is mill down original (crappy, those desreve prize) pattern and smooth out a bit dayto shapes, would be more "soft".

Usually when I come here to see an update, I have to make sure my seatbelts are on. And of course here is another brilliant way to take something that is good enuff for most of us peasants and make it into something from the modelling olympics. I'm not sure what you mean by bringing this thread down to Earth, prob because I must be on Mars myself but I think that master and all the casting is the cat's pajamas. Great work I say, maybe in real it isnt as good as what you were after but it sure is great in the pictures.

I have seen Julian's seats in Frankfurt, too. I do think there is a difference, though.
The horizontal "ribs" on Julian's seats are much more evenly spaced than Steven's (sorry Steven :uhoh: ).

Hello Pong, your works made me dumb every time. The seat looks really like pulled out from the real car, the belt feeder is awesome! And what's the material you used for the belt? that's quite realistic! Looks soft and stretchy. Much better than the sixpenny adhesive tape on someone's stuff. :icon16: and I love the key a lot!!! Make me one dozen please~~~~ :icon16: I guess it's very close to its born now! Keep up!!! Look forward to that!!!

Looks like the plastic go crazy from back, the clear is perfect, no OP, not scratches, in fact you'll see only from 30-40 cm and counterlight.

I used TS13 over automotive Lecher Grigio Alloy base. It was perfect util last time I seen: in February when I had to meet Syevensky, there was a couple of spots, but not this crap.
