It's my first attempt to the matter, next would be the italian red one.
First: my gol: I was impressed by the blue kind:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/back.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/front.jpg

but.. do you like your country's flag stretched on the car? Mini with the Union Jack's roof a part, I'm not. So I thought to aplly some "muscles" white bands. Looks like from the photoshop work I done it's better to stop bands before bumpers.

So, my attempt:
the body with the SAS TK primered
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/primer.jpg

Sideskirts: I add a piece of styrene inside to made deeph the intake: I saw some great 360 with "toy appeal" intakes: this job would give some realism, however is quetly boring to finishing the inside.
Well we all know the job on the booth spoiler

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/mods.jpg

2 colors threatment on the body shell: I don't shoot every step but it's preatty that:
- some step of Tamy grey primer/putty/primer ecc until I was happy to the result, than I sand it with 1000/2000/3600 grits
- a couple of thin coat of GLOSS ALUMINIUM , after that NO SANDING JOBS
- 3 mist coat with TS50 MICA BLUE, not sanded
- a couple of wet coat with TS51 RACING BLUE, I sand after the first hand with 200/3600 grit and wait 24hr before spray the 2nd hand.

I wish to see something of the mica trough the racing blue and.. it's! Yes, it's depend from the illumination but I'm quetly happy.

so I'm waiting several days to polish all, apply white decals, and then some works for my preferred topcoat, the TS13

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/wet1.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/wet2.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/modsvern.jpg

Yes: isn't wet look just now but it could be better after polishing/ clearcoating/ polishing (yest I'm stupid but I just like polish 2 time, to give a smooth surface to decals)

Until I waiting the paint drying I done something on the seat:
before all these're the buckets I want to reply:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/bucks.jpg
1- I cast a copy of the '01 scooby seat, cut it with a PE saw, reshape it, fill the junctions and scribe new junctions with the PE saw and a file:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/seat1.jpg
then I add the well-cushined edge with a little roll of milliput (some of you're able to cook italians "GNOCCHI" ?)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/seat2.jpg
Here you could see the seat ready for casting (as said I wand 2 CS, also the red kind) and the mesh, casted inside male/female molds, after that I cut out headlight sides due to the fact I'll like to use plastic kit one, like in 360spider thread (ex)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/grid.jpg

thanks to all for reply in advance: any criticism is well accepted
next with decals and engine :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

Wow, very impressive. You and 360spider are competing for the no.1 360 stradale on the board. Nice to see you work the rear grill.

And the color. something different again. But sorry, nothing works better on this car than the stradale "italian" stripes.

I'm wondering why you didn't simply use a transkit to get the CS look. Any real reason?

Well then, I've been trumped. The rear hatch doesn't look like the one I got when I used the kit, which had me suspect. Good job incorporating it; I didn't do half as good a job with the front end, I'm afraid.

Keeping tabs on this thread to see how it turns out.

Some few updates, I polished the body shell with 3 step compounds for 3 times on horizzontal spaces (under decal strips) and only with coarse comp. on sides and bumpers: after decalling I'll clearcoat, wetsand and polish all better

I hope to do strips over this night

Thanks Chris, I'm working on white "muscle car" decals but I?m not happy to th result, I redone the cutting work dozen of times, maybe I need to spray white too.

I have a general question. Do you use wax? Can you apply decals after wax? Wil they stick?

Someone ask that also in a ITA forum: for me is the standard feature, also maybe I haven't troubles with TS13 becouse I protect decals and underlayers with wax (Tamy) hoping well also this time!

You're taking a chance painting over wax. Wax has additives that repel just about anything.

Compounds are used to smoothen out a finish and after washing them completely, you shouldn't have any problems painting afterwards.

gionc
01-19-2006, 12:45 PM
I know, I can't say anything other than I've been great results making that and I don't see any typical TS bugs: just add layers carefully. But I don't want to force anyone to this "stupid" (yes first time with the calsonic nismo I do it for wrong and I had succesful) tip: it could remain my secret :grinyes::grinyes::grinyes:

And if you try and get worst :crying: don search me: I have gold hand on that and only other few stuff :naughty::evillol::smokin:

01-19-2006, 12:54 PM
Well, I've done both with the decals.

However, as a general rule I try not to apply anything over a waxed surface. Better to be safe than sorry . . .

Most decals will hold up to light waxing after being applied over a compounded surface anyway. . .

01-22-2006, 12:15 PM
a little but suffered update: strips done. I cut dozens of 8mm strips but when I aplly the decal I discovered a rough cut. Than I try to cut only the decal surface, not the support paper, and this's better. Sorry for the dark image. Next clearcoating :uhoh:

Hey folks: some few updates and.. thanks all for your kind comments :)
So far some engine's job on that V8:

Looks like I done a "copy&paste" from the MPWR's TT thread, is right, thanks a lot my friend for this tip, but seem i need to try a couple time more to have a decent result :)

1- ferrari PE brand on the clean airbox, glued with a bit of CA
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/32707620.jpg

2- I steal those applicators from my dentist :), I find out now to my LHS, not cheap at least
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/318a5ab8.jpg

3- tamiya white primer trought airbrush (I become to enjoy my new Iwata HP-CS, great- primer decanted from the can)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/5325430e.jpg

I gently scratch out he paint from the PE part

Do you mean when you shake a Coke can, Prosecco or Champagne? Well nothing like a little decanting jar, when you try to open.... SWWWWWWWWAMMM ink everywhere also after a couple of days :(
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/d6c75328.jpg

Well: I spray a flat "Insigna red" over the primer, I put down the compressor's pressure and mix a thick paint to do some texture, after paint's curing I rescratch the paint from the PE with a sharp cutter
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/32dee311.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/065d9beb.jpg

This is the not-detailed engine: primed in gloss black than sprayed with AlcladII Polished Aluminium, washed after a couple days with acrylic flat black

Some other work on interiors:
I had to clone my own modyfied seats:

1- The clay's base for the silicon mold
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/9613d965.jpg
2- The 2 shells mold
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/11b30b59.jpg
3-first few casted pieces: I had to correct some trouble doe to the thin seat's size in the half: so I had to do some "by-pass" symply cutting the silicone molds, last 2 parts (nr.4) should be ok but needs a lot of cleaning :uhoh:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/c5c3deeb.jpg
4- a cleaned and just casted seat
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/88aee6bb.jpg
5- primed parts
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/0c87a778.jpg
6- pre-shaded parts (with citadel acrilics-brown)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/preshaded.jpg
7- 1 hand of flesh (citadel)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/seatleather.jpg

well looks like I have some work to do on this leather but I can see the way: an anticipation: I want the seam! stay tuned.:)

So far some job on the dashboard:
nothing new, all was explained from Alex Kustow in his thread and from Alessandro Prini in his one: the only difference is that I tried the "styrene way" insthead the "putty way" , so I have some chances to have a sharp place for the climas command w/out mill anything (almost anything)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/448be980.jpg
I cut out the clima and fill the new shape with styrene, than I fill with 2p.putty and finished with putty
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/5a6b5cb0.jpg

Well, soon with this part finishing: I design some PE parts for vents (I need a couple weeks to etch in a service):

This system's performances are every day worst: it need 3-4 time to post. :uhoh:

Well, finally some body works:

body shell clearcoated with TS13 trought can, several thin coats followed from a couple of "almost wet" coats: quetly an appreciable orange peel :( as ever.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/e5b01512.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/bfa147de.jpg

I cut down rought peel with 2000 followed to 4000 grit and polished a couple times with 3-step compounds, then waxed, not bad to me, better at naked eye :)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/3df75f34.jpg
