Le Mans Contest - discussion

Hmm, that brings another question to mind. Is there a deadline for starting a progress thread? Or can we start a progress thread as late as May 2005, as long as the model is finished before the start of the race? As far as I can see there is no deadline of starting the progress thread, so I guess we can do that somewhere next year as well. I'm just thinking about a project I might/can do and in which category :naughty: , but it depends on the "official" closing date of the contest. ;)
That's the way I see it Guido. As things stand now, the progress thread can be started as late as you want. Ideally it would be best to announce your plans earlier. But if people are unsure whether they can make the deadline (even though it must be one of the longest in history!) they don't have to make any promises at this stage. Just take some pics as you go and post them when you are comfortable committing.
I hope we're not getting to caught up in the legalities of everything. The purpose of the rules are to make it fair for everybody, not to try and exclude people. Everybody is welcome, all you need to do is build something and take the occasional picture as you go :D

I've got a question:
is it possible to represent a car that raced Le Mans in the livery it had during the test days (means: different colors, and maybe body detail but same chassis)?
Just in case I find time and money for what I have in mind... :D

Just concentrate on the Lightweight E-Type first ;)
Yeah I see no reason while testing liverys can't be allowed. So long as it is a real car, with supporting photographic evidence of it at full speed down the Mulsanne Straight :D

Is Your project about a forthcoming variant of a resin kit of a race car of the sixties from a very famous factory but unfortunately rarely represented in the 1/24 models world?...
If so, well, yes! :D
Don't worry, boss, for my concentration: it's just a way to try to think about something else for a few hours only... :icon16:
Additionnal informations: it's an italian car, crashed, so just a copy exists in a museum. And even if the original kit is realeased since a few month now, I've never seen one built, here or wherever... Mabye because it comes from a french model brand...
And I'll do it only if I find the money to buy it first!

Profil24 Maserati Tipo 151 is listed at Strada Sports for US$105 (what is the conversion to the Euro at the moment?). Which brings me to our next bit of news :)
Kevin from Strada Sports has very generously offered to be the second sponsor for our comp! He will kindly supply one of our winners with a choice of three sets of decals from his range. He has two lines, Speedline and Raceworks, both of which are designed by UMI graphics and printed by Cartograf, so you know they are of the best quality. I have a couple of his GT40 sheets and they are brilliant.
Kevin is a great guy to deal with, just recently, I wanted to order a Fisher McLaren M6A kit. Unfortunately it was out of production, but Kevin contacted Paul Fisher and talked him into making another batch! Great service :D
Check out his website at www.stradasports.com. He even has a great selection of hi res detail photos from Rensport and other gatherings.

Kevin's a good guy. I believe he's on a week long vacation this week, so I dont think emails will be replied to for now. He told me has 10 of the HRM engine kits for the Fujimi Porsche 917K coming very soon, and three were already sold (1 to me!) at $35 USD.

Someone can help me
I try to see if the Porsche GT3 R/RS with Redbull livery raced to Lemans ?
I know it was on daytona with the big american flag on the top, but I have like 3 different livery I can built with a single sheet of decals.
I can't find any detail on that

1. It will limited to only cars that ran or qualified for the Le Mans 24 Hours
By that statement, I understand it to mean only cars that raced in the race that takes place at Le Mans annually known as the 24 Heures du Mans.

Hi Mick, welcome to AF
Really the contest was kind of intended for new builds, but I for one don't really want to turn anybody away. If you can create a thread showing us your progress pics that would satisfy the rules. Then after you've teased us for a while you can post the completed photos. Is it the Fujimi kit or some resin number?

The model is based on the Fujimi but ended up having parts form numerous kits. transkits and after market parts. It's a looooong story and it's all documented :)

Hello bench racers! Well, Christmas is almost upon us and it will the New Year, before we know it. That means there is only about six months left until the deadline for the Le Mans comp. Several people have already finished their entries, but the majority (including myself!) still have much work to do. So how are you all going with things? There is, of course, no obligation to have your model finished by the 19th of June, but the more entries we get the better!
I have a very long way to go on my GT40. Before I even back get to it I want to finish my Muircielago (which is almost done) and also build something for Zeljko's next Rallycar comp in March (?). That means I will have my work cut out for me, especially since my job will be busy early next year as well. :( So I hope I'm not too tired and the family can allow me to spend plenty of time in the garage of an evening. :icon16:

Hello gentlemen
I'm relatively new to this forum and was wondering.....
Since I'm a real LM buff your LM Model contest has a big appeal to me.. problem is I'm not really a "static" modellist, but what we in slotracing call a modelcar racer.
So my question is:
Would a 1/24 slotcar qualify as a curbside model?
Or to put it differently how much detail is required on a curbside model?
The reason I'm asking is that I have 2 projects that will have to be finished at least 1 day before your deadline.....
...as they wil actaully race at Le Mans France on June 17th.
Here's a pic of our 2004 car

I have no idea where I should start to read about the "Le Mans Contest". I have zero Le Mans car complete. But I have 3 collection kits that I would like to share with all Le Mans lover.

Hi superxxx, FYI those Mercs are not actually Le Mans cars, they never raced in the 24 hours in that form. As for the Le Mans comp all you need to do is start a progress thread and state you wish to enter. The tricky part is having it finished before the start of this years race. :) It is all in the rules stickied at the top of the Motorsports forum.

As RallyRaider commented the Merc's aren't allowed in (unless you want to do a conversion job?)!
I'd say yes to slot cars, as long as you can show a progress thread for what you have done.
On a side note - we may have to shift the judging date by a couple of days as I'm just booking my flights and tickets to be at the 24 hours again this year (hopefully chearing Aston Martin to a class win). The upside is I'll be taking a camera and plenty of memory cards with me...

Woops I thought they did with the CLK-GTR, as I knew the CLK-GTR had limit street production which is use qualify the race of Le Mans

Mercedes did race the CLK-GTR at Le Mans in 1998 but that was a very different version with a V8, instead of the V12 used the 1997 Global Endurance Series car that Tamiya tooled. In 1999 it was the CLR.

Yeah, that was the CLR at Le Mans in 1999 (three times!). The Porsche also fliped once, but not at Le Mans
