I wish that I had looked at these types of compressors before I bought my Iwata Sprint Jet for US$160. The Sprint Jet is fine but it maxes out at 20 to 25psi.
I've been trying to figure out why these "Home Depot" type compressors are so much less expensive than the "fine art" types. They give much greater PSI that's for sure but do they give a good, steady, clean, dry, air flow at 7 to 15 PSI? From what Vric says I guess they do.
If your local Sears has a money back if not satisfied policy, then, you should definitely give this one a try. I would.

just be sure to buy a moisture trap if you live in an aera with high humidity.

You're probably right. Maybe not overpriced, but certainly "top dollar". He can probably find something similar for less. But Craftsmen stuff is known for high quality. They have a 2-gal one for less.
One question I have: When you turn the compressor on, how long do you have to wait before there is enough pressure to start spraying? Do you have to wait for the tank to reach pressure, or can you start working immediately?

Vric, thanks for the good description of how one actually works with a tank compressor. For me, I have found that I spend 10 minutes getting the paint ready, 20 seconds actually spraying it on, and another 10 minutes cleaning up after :grinno:. So your 2 gal compressor would work great for me. Why didn't we have this thread BEFORE I spent lots of $$$ on my Sprint Jet :banghead:

http://www.chpower.com/chimages/catalog/active/comp_VT6300_500x354.gif Here's mine. About 3 minutes to fill the tank at 150psi (125 modified) then turn it off and shoot... why??? Because if you are all attentive on what you're doing and it start... you'll have a heart attack !! The one Vric have is cool to do airbrush and certainly a bit more quiet. Purge the tank when you're done and those compressors are good for a life time... almost ! Well almost bcuz if your stupid crazy big dog run right into it and cause it to drop on the head of the compressor it'll explode with a big kind of fumes and dust spraying all around (not to mention the shrapnel of flying metal) ! Stupid Snooky... bad dog, bad ! :nono: happened to me with a little compressor 3 years ago ! Frightening experience.
Edit:Purge is done with the little valve on the bottom of the pig.
Re-edit: Pig ?? I mean tank !
Re-Re-edit: The compressor was a old "General", rust and years didn't help him... don't be too scare of it, chance are very minimal... but still :disappoin

it's a Delta 2Gallon 100Psi.. you can get any other brand anyway.
and no, the jar will not come off when filled of paint (well it shouldn't) there is no lock on any airbrush. just fit it tight.
I only work with the color cup, some prefer glass jar.. since I work litle by litle, I use the smaller thing I have.. and I don't waste any paint with that

No they wont fall out. The plastic siphon of the glass jar must be "eased" into the airbrush. It will definatly not fall out unless not put in right or you yank on it during brushing.
Vric swears by his color cup but I cannot get mine in my airbrush! It wont fit. So I use the glass jars. Which work for me when I base paint everything because I need more paint than the color cup can hold. But I must agree with him on the glass jar wasting paint if you are doing detail painting.

Sorry to keep bringing this thread up, but I have a couple of questions :)
I've read in the dixieart website that this airbrush doesn't come with a hose. I do have a Badger 250 (I call it aircrapper :D), and I use the hose that came with it. My question is: will that hose fit the Iwata, or I will have to buy a new one/adaptor?
Oh, and another thing: The Iwata Revolution CR sprays widths that go from 1/8" to 1/2" with 0.5 mm screw-in nozzle/needle. I would love to be able to spray hairline to 1" or 2" wide lines. Is that range (1/8"-1/2") sufficient for our modelling purposes?
Regards,
Pedro.

Same with the Badger 250 hose being compatible to the Iwata, im not to sure but the Iwata one looks thicker. The Badger 250 really is crap :)

If I look a the image I have found about the Badger 250, you will need to buy a new hose.
as for the 1/2", you should be able to do 1" or a bit more with higher PSI and working more far from your work.
but sure, the Iwata CR is designed to be a detailling airbrush.

You do have two options for the hose. Either buy an adapter(dixieatrs got them) or buy a new hose. If it was me I would buy the hose.
I dont think anyone here has to feel sorry about bringing this thread up. When I was researching for my airbrush here at AF, a thread like this would have helped alot. So this should be great reference for future airbrush buyers.

TOTALY AGREE !
For the 2" lines though... good luck because the edge will be so mist that it won't do a nice job and you'll have to be very far from your surface to reach that and the paint will probably dry before reaching the surface resulting in a very grainny paint. The paint would have to be very dillued and the psi very high. But why a 2" line in modeling ?? Iwata CR are not spray guns !!
For the hose connection, it depends. I already have a good hose (heavy duty braided air hose) for my Badger(s) and want to keep it so I go with the adaptor to convert to Iwata but if you have a nasty original Badger plastic hose that come with the spray cans... don't bother, go with a new hose.
TOTALY AGREE !

Thank you for your replies, guys! I've learnt alot with this whole thread, and I will keep bringing it back when I have more questions.
A 2" wide line was just an example. I find 1/2" a little too small, that's why I asked :).
About the hose...yes, mine is that plastic one that came with the "aircrapper" 250 :D I guess I will order a good one (braided).
Again, thank you!
Regards,
Pedro.

a nice braided hose will look better on an Iwata than a cheap rubber one too :D

Grr! I went to Pearl Paint in Paramus NJ and i must say the store is toooo small. I went to buy the glass jar for my airbrush. All they had were Paasche glass jars with different sizes that didn't match my Iwata! I guess i will have to go to the other store in Chinatown NYC again to get the glass jar since that store is HUGE! The smalless one they had here was a 1oz glass jar but didn't match my Iwata. :(!

1oz is ok, but you should try to get one even smaller..
1/2oz are very good to use with testor 1/4oz paint thinned with 1:1 (give you exact 1/2oz)
I praticly always use my 1/4Oz Color cup, but also a 1/2oz for body... never bigger

Man those must be tiny! The 1oz glass one was pretty heavy though :( I will try to search for the 1/4 and 1/2oz one sometime this year. Thanks Vric. Do you think ACMoore (Spell check) carries some color cups? I've heard they provide some parts for airbrush's.

Guess what guys! I exchanged my compressor eventhough it wasn't even here yet! I know have a 3 Gallon 1.5hp 125PSI Oil-Lubricated Craftsman Air Compressor which is sitting next to me! Will take some pictures once my sister gets here since i was being too nice and let her borrow the Digicam :banghead: I have a few questions. Well i was reading through the Owners Manual and i noticed that it said "Never use Compressor Indoors". What is that all about? What are the risks of using it Indoors? Can i just place it in a closed spot where nothing might touch it or can be flammable? I also noticed that it didn't come with the Air Intake Filter...Is that bought seperately?
Edit: I just found the Air Intake Filter hidden inside the 25 Foot Air Hose.

I use my compressor indoors. I have no clue why they would not want one to use it indoors. The only thing I can think of is that it is loud?

unless it run on fuel, I don't see any problem use a compressor indoors !
it might be loud, but 3Gallon, once filled, you will be ok for the job you will need to do

Hey guys, I just finished using my Airbrush with the PSI at 35. I've got to say that the Iwata is defenitely worth it! Soo much control and the range for the spray is incredible. It goes from hairline to almost 2 inches! Defenitely recommend the Eclipse HP-BCS. The Compressor is very good also. Stayed filled for a really long time! Can't wait for those models to get here from HLJ so i could try out modeling with it.

 I guess i got too happy with the air that i put it that high. I did like it thogh when the air was going down that it was around 10-15 PSI. I'll mess around with that tomorrow since i can't turn on my compressor or else there will be a riot inside my house! :banghead:

The hose measures a total of 35 foot! The compressor came with a 25 ft. hose and the Airbrush hose is 10 feet! I can leave the compressor in one end of my basement and work in the other end. Its great!
By the way the compressor retailed for 120 and i put a 2 year warranty raising the price to 150 :D

Well if you like spraying at 35 PSI that is fine. Eventually you will notice that you are using a considerable amount of paint. So thats why I only spray at 8-15 PSI.
BTW make sure to empty your compressor after every use and drain the tank of water weekly. If you dont the tank will eventually rust.

and if you see there is some watter in the tank, it will be a good way to know if you need a moisture trap

Agree for the moisture thing and the working pressure too. Beware of the rust or you're investment will suffer. And don't shoot too high with the Iwata... I don't have this exact model but most of Iwata are rated to work under 40psi... don't blow it !
