Dex-cool causing problems?

Hello I have a 2000 gtp with 80k miles on it and have a check engine light on. The code is p0128 which says that the temp of my car isnt being regulated correctly. The guy at murrays told me to get a flush cause my coolant looks watery. Is he on the right track?

Also I want ONLY THE BEST for my gtp and am in fear of dex-cool. After reasearching i found numbers of problems with it. I already replaced the intake manifold gasket which could of been the dex-cool eating it. I dont want anymore problems like this. I read about Peak Global Extended Life Antifreeze and Coolant. Should i go with this? Is their any other alternative that would be better?
Thank you!

Re: Dex-cool causing problems?

More than likely your T' stat is causing this, I don't see a reason to go away from Dex if the system is serviced properly and the cap is replaced with a high quality unit, air getting into the cooling system can cause issues with Dex.

Alot of us use Prestone Extended Life. The Peak brand should be similar. Prestone EL is an OAT - Organic Acid Technology coolant just like Dexcool. It is fully compatible with Dexcool.

Just flush out the old Dexcol and start using the alternative coolants.

Re: Dex-cool causing problems?

Not to hi-jack but, I was looking at my radiator fluid level today. What is the gunk at the top of the inside of cap? I hope its not bad cause it look bad.
