2002 Grand Prix SE
I just bought a 02 grand prix se it has about 64K miles on it. I was just wondering if anyone knows of anything that will start to go bad on it and what i should be looking for.

Re: 2002 Grand Prix SE
Welcome to AF!
With that few miles you shouldn't have too many issues. I would see if you can determine when the transmission fluid was changed last. If it has not been changed have the fluid and filter changed. Don't flush the tranny as it is not necessary. If your car has a 3.8L then you may want to keep a close eye on the oil to make certain that the intake manifold gaskets don't leak. It was a problem on older models but not as common on the new ones but it does happen. Brakes need to be checked due to mileage. If they are bad change them but otherwise you should have a very reliable vehicle. |

Re: 2002 Grand Prix SE
I second what Lynn (GTPdad) says, and add that if your SE has the 3100 engine, it's even MORE important to keep an eye on the oil and coolant levels. The intake gaskets GM used on the 3100 are JUNK, and will eventually start leaking coolant into the oil. If your oil turns cloudy or you start mysteriously losing coolant, now you know why.

Re: 2002 Grand Prix SE
I have a '97 and it's been a great car. I have probably spent less than $1500 on repairs but I did most of the work on it myself. If you have the 3.8 it will give you good service will a minimum of trouble.

Re: 2002 Grand Prix SE
Yeah mine has the 3.1 under the hood. When i first got my GP i changed the oil and the antifreeze (like recommended). The only problem that i had with it was that the radiator cap kept producing a brown sludge on the cap. I changed the cap and i no longer have that problem.

Re: 2002 Grand Prix SE
Yeah, you guys should see what else she has dont to it. Its white, pinstriped it blue, painted the lugnut covers to match the pinstripe, chrome valve stems and covers, brakes are all new with new rotors, alloy rims, new tires, chrome exhaust tip, chrome license plate covers. The thing puts my lumina to shame. She has also found a way to disable the automatic headlights and drl's with out the stupid clicking, works flawlessly. Maybe if you ask her really nice she'll post a picture of it so you can see how hot it looks, very apt somehow for its driver.

Re: 2002 Grand Prix SE
I am actually thinking about doing that. Should it be "pontiac" or "grand prix"? and should it be on the front windsheild or back windsheild??

Re: 2002 Grand Prix SE
well i was kidding but i think "Grand Prix" would be cool across the front of your windsheild but clear text with a solid white backround. and as for the back, maybe a pontiac logo in white.....or go crazy and put a giant HEMI sticker on it just to throw people off

Re: 2002 Grand Prix SE
I would paint the calipers and the rotor hats with a high temp paint that matches the blue lug nuts, it would really stand out on a white car. I did mine in red (as my car is also red) and it looks good, especially when rolling. Please don't put any "kid peeing on someone elses logo" stickers on it. We'll have to call the fashion police on you. On e-bay, they have stickers that go in the recessed Pontiac and Grand prix logos on the front and rear facias that you could also get in a matching blue. I see your state requires a front plate, so you can't use the ones for the front.
