Revell Jaguar XK-SS

You might remember me posting some pics of the body of this a while back as part of my prep/testing for a jaguar XK-E model.
Well, after too many months, I've finally gotten off my rear end and taken some pics of this, which incidentally, was finished a month ago.

It's not perfect as my original butchering of the bodyshell had left some horrible scars that I had not covered properly and this being a test car, I wasn't exactly in the most careful of moods as i was building it.

anyway.

you might have noticed that the sun was pretty low when I took these. I'll see if I can get myself out around noon one of these sunny days to get some better lit ones.

DM.

Re: Revell Jaguar XK-SS

Very nice!

I don't envy you for the task of installing the interior after the body assembly (as mentioned in your other thread) - I'm looking into this for the Revell Monogram 1:8 E-Type Coupe and it's not going to be fun at that scale, so 1:24 must have been an absolute headache

However, the results are worth it!

Re: Revell Jaguar XK-SS

I have built this kit, and found that the fitting of the windscreen is hard and that it is too big, did you have this same problem?
It is a very nice car, and looks good in black, however much i think it looks at its best in british racing green.

Re: Revell Jaguar XK-SS

my new camera arrived today and i couldn't help but test it out indoors, at 3:30am and under bad lighting.
here's three more pics.

(hehe.. ghost in the shell.....)

more to come in proper daylight....

also, I didn't really have any problem with the clear part in the windscreen.
the positioning is a bit akward being set at two different angles at the top and bottom but a little sanding here and there and it sits in the frame perfectly.
only gripe i have is that I don't have an airbrush and the connecting points of the chrome parts are less than conspicuous. I have since then gotten hold of a lot of Bare Metal Foil. The next time I need to do trim of any sort, I'd probably end up BMFing it all after a bleach-strip.

And yes, the scale of the side screen parts are a little out of scale.
As I said, this was more or less a two part test:
i) how to best build the body/clam-shell and interior (almost a success)
ii) try out my then newly aquired bottle of Autoglym Resin Polish on Tamiya TS paints (pleasing results)
so i wasn't too bothered about that.
I WILL build another one of these with as much detail as I can in the near future so that one will get my full attention to all "faults".

Re: Revell Jaguar XK-SS

Very nice!! Somehow I must have missed the previous thread.

I've had this kit in my 'to-do' pile for at least 10 years. I keep looking at it but everytime I'm put off 'cos the instructions show the top & bottom half of the body being assembled around the completed interior meaning either a nasty join or an awkward masking job.

You don't often see these completed, but it's nice to know a good result can be achieved with this kit. Maybe I'll start mine soon.....

Re: Revell Jaguar XK-SS

a few more i took whilst testing the focal ranges of the camera.

i have to say, black paint in sunlight is a bitch to photo.
the camera (pentax A10 fot those interested) didn't know where to focus. Most of the time, it focused on the surface of the plastic instead of the reflection. I tried to remedy this by manually setting the focus to the depth of the reflected image but couldn't see the display clearly enough in the sunlight/glare to see if I was in the right position for the focal depth.

...better photos will come soon....

Re: Revell Jaguar XK-SS

while i'm testing the camera, here's a pic of the others in progress

here, you can clearly see the problems the camera has wth focal depths and ranges.
guess it is a pocket camera after all and not really meant for up close and personal photo taking.
