OBDI/OBDII/CAN Code Readers
Anyone have any informed opinions on good quality OBDI/OBDII/CAN code readers that are good buys for the money? I don't want to pay more than $400. Hooking up to a PC is good, but not necessary.
I have a recommendation for AutoXRay 6000. Any opinions about others? Is this one a good buy, considering it has the PC software for graphing, etc. which I might use?

Re: OBDI/OBDII/CAN Code Readers
I need a stand-alone scanner which may be hooked up to a computer. I don't currently have a laptop with which to connect this unit. Might buy one in the near future though.

Re: OBDI/OBDII/CAN Code Readers
Even on ebay you won't be able to get even a used scanner for US$400.
Check out ebay for mt-2500 and you will see some good options, you might luck out and grab one up for cheap.

Re: OBDI/OBDII/CAN Code Readers
Maybe scanner is the wrong word for what I'm looking for. I want to obtain freeze-frame data in the unit and being able to plot live data on a laptop is desirable, but not necessary.

Re: OBDI/OBDII/CAN Code Readers
The auto x-ray, in my opinion, is the most cost effective, upgradeable, versitaile unit you can buy. I have the autoxray 2000, upgraded unit to have live data scanning, readiness tests, freeze frame information. The 6000 is the one I am looking to get soon. It's capable of supporting domestic and import models, and can be connected to your pc for upgrades, and information can be downloaded from your unit to your PC. All for about $500.00

A lot of people have gone to laptop soft ware. But to read obd1 obd11 and can you will need a high end scanner. Snapon MT-2500 is one of the better all around scanners. I have used one for over 20 years. Never wears out or becomes obsolete But the updates and new cartiages and can adapters will cost. ![]() ![]() For just for obd11 Auto Xray is not bad. I use the ez link auto Xray for a backup scanner. Not sure if they have gone can yet. They say the 6000 auto Xray is a good one to. Good obd11 import and domestic coverage. www.autoxray.com Also bat auto tool store has some scanners and reviews and articles on them. http://tools.batauto.com/ http://www.troublecodes.net/articles/ Also you can run a post in the general forum on bat auto and ask about scanners. Good Luck MT

Re: OBDI/OBDII/CAN Code Readers
I can get an AutoXRay 6000 for $400 or so and it does the ODBI/OBDII and CAN out of the box - at least that is what is advertised...
The Carcode OBD-II PC-Based Scantool that you referenced is very tempting, but I don't have a laptop (currently) and I don't want to buy one just for this purpose. I need one that is stand-alone with (maybe) the option for connection to a laptop. Very interesting, though... Thanks for the references.
