WIP:Cory Mac's FRAM AirHog TF dragster
This is Cory's '05 car, not the one that broke in half last week.
Big thanks to DaveT (skylinefan) for paving the way for both this car and the Brut car. If it wasn't for him working out all the kinks and showing me how a modern fuel car should be done I would have never been able to do these.I started with the Bernstein kit, and cleaned up all the mold lines (a million of them) and then cut off the very front of the frame and reworked it to accomadate the single element front wing. Once it was ready, I primed it, shot it in Alclad Steel, and then hit all the weld joints with a combination of Alcald clear Amber, and Tamiya flat black. I added the fuel cell, and used the straps and hardware from a Garage Scenes PE sheet. I also installed the rear end center section. ![]() ![]() The front rims and centers came from MAS. I used a solid pattern for the outside, and a open pattern for the inside to simulate the spokes had been milled out on the inside. ![]() ![]() The engine is also coming along. I used the kit block and heads, and the supercharger is a resin piece from Comp Resins. The injector hat is from the kit, but I modified to it to get it up higher in the air. It was covered with SMS CF, and cleared. All the upper and lower fuel lines have been added, and this engine will use the modern black fuel and oil lines like the Brut car did. I think the mags were from Scale Repros Plus, and the bottom two pulleys are from MAS. I decided to redo the upper one and made a new pulley from brass that has the snout and pulley all as one piece. ![]() ![]()

Re: WIP:Cory Mac's FRAM AirHog TF dragster
Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. I've been a member for a while but I'm just getting my feet wet posting here.
A few more baby steps made tonight. I wasn't happy with trying to clean up the kit driveshaft with all the shapes and ridges on it, so I made a new one from aluminum. I also made up two rear brake rotors and got those installed. ![]() ![]() I also re-made the idler pulley from brass like the top one.

Re: WIP:Cory Mac's FRAM AirHog TF dragster
More progress on the top fueler. I thought the "GMC" slixx gave for the butterflies seemed a bit small, so I drew up a new set and printed them out on the Alps. Once they were dry I gave each hole a shot of future.
Also while I was at the computer I drew up some Jeg's and FRAM decals for the wing supports. These were also printed out on the Alps and applied to the frame. ![]() Out back I scrathcbuilt a new wheelie bar and finished it out like I did on the frame with various shades of Alcald. I used RB Motion rod ends to mount it to the frame, and cut a new "wheel" from scrap orange sprue. It was cleaned up, smoothed on the edges and then mounted with and RB Motion bolt. Now this model is really long!! ![]() ![]() The next thing up was THE BIGGEST roadblock I've had to deal with on this car. It was responsible for things gettting shelved numerous times. But, I decided I had to get through it. What "it" is, is the metal shield on the back of the roll cage. I'm not positive but I think they became mandated after Darrell Russell was killed a few years ago. Thus, to new for the kit to have. I had tried every method I could think of, and nothing was working. Finally I just got out some .010 sheet plastic and had at it. I actually ended up making the piece from four separate pieces. Once they were all together I blended them in with super glue and putty. After a lot of messaging, and a coat of Alclad, it came out pretty nice. I added a few more RB bolts, and a little was, and the roadblock was finally cleared!!! ![]() ![]()

Re: WIP:Cory Mac's FRAM AirHog TF dragster
Thanks for the comments guys.
More progress...... I got back to work on the engine. New barrell valve, linkages, and more of my hand made black fuel lines. I also added the linkage and mount rod on the other side of the injector. Fuel pump will be up next. ![]() ![]() ![]() Things are also progressing on the body work. All the orange has been shot. And I started doing the pre-lim decal work that needs to be done before the clear goes on. The center element of the front wing was CF'd. and all three elements front an back of the rear wing were covered. Very time consuming, but worth it! ![]() ![]() The main body was masked after the orange went on, and the back half was shot with black. I added the "mesh" and the main Airhog logos. Once all this is cleared and polished out, I will add a second set of the white logos only to cover up any bleedthrough. ![]() ![]()

This is really fantastic. You sure have great skills. Looking at the frame I had to re-read your notes because I thought you made this out of metal. The joints are top notch. The engine work alone is a masterpiece in itself. I'm really impressed how clean and well the body is, excellent craftsmanship here. What a treat for us modellers following along.
