Porsche 928 S4 (testors/italeri)
This will be a progress thread for the 928 S4
The kit is a Testors kit based on a Italeri body (I think), with full engine and opening hood. I have not checked if it is true to the original car but it looks good. The only problem I have encountered so far is that the whole front and back where seperate pieces with bad fit. The body is painted black, a boring color wich is diffucult to take pictures of, but I think it's the best looking color on a 928. Maybe some light colored interior will make it more interesting. Body airbrushed with Tamiya Acrylic gloss black over gray primer The body is not clearcoated. Paint is thinned 50/50 with Tamiya acrylic thinner before airbrushed. three light coats and two heavy coats, all with 10 min between each coat. Chassis airbrushed with semi-gloss black mixed with a little X-21 flat-base (pics are coming). The car is posing on some Aoshima Longchamp's for your viewing pleasure. The extra wheel is to show you the shine :-) |

Wow, awesome 928. I might have to pick up that kit soon after I finish up my backlog of kits I have now. I'll be watching this thread.

Re: Porsche 928 S4 (testors/italeri)
Small update:
two-tone interior Tamyia buff and semigloss black Engine test installed but still needs a little touch up and detailing: But I got some trouble with this kit. I was not happy with the panel lines on the rear bumber, so after a little work with the scriber I ended up with some nice scratches where they should'nt be. So I'll probably have to strip the body and repaint it again :-( |

Excellent choice of model and looks good in black. The interior colours you have chosen are a nice contrast to the black .Keep up the excellent progress.Look forward to seeing it finished.

Re: Porsche 928 S4 (testors/italeri)
Nice!
Gotta pix of the box? I've never seen a Testors S4 though I do have a couple S kits and a Fujimi S4. I think my S kits have opening doors too... Oh, and as the black is not clear coated you may be able to just sand out the scratches and them mask and repaint the panel affected. I would try that before starting over on a paint job otherwise that nice.

Re: Porsche 928 S4 (testors/italeri)
Too late.. The body is stripped and sanded.
Here are some pics of the box: I'm having big trouble getting the rear fender panel lines to look good, so I'm playing with the idea to remove them with putty and convert the body to a Strosek Ultrawing. |

Thanks!
I guess I'm going to have to get one of those... Can you post a pix of the decal sheet, do they have S4's in black and silver?

Re: Porsche 928 S4 (testors/italeri)
Hard to believe as bad as Italeri decals are that the Testors versions are worse! One set of my 944 decals simply came apart in water. Luckly for me one of my others came with a spare set, which I simply clear coated and cut out before I dipped them in water.
I'll have to check my Fujimi S4 kit for the correct markings.

Re: Porsche 928 S4 (testors/italeri)
I discovered that there is an error on the decal sheet. On the pic below, you see how "928 s4" should be written, but on the decal sheet the vertical line in the "4" is missing :-(
This might be that the decal sheet in my kit have been damaged, but it seems to be in good shape, so this is a bit strange. NOTE! Image link updated Last edited by 356speedster; 01-24-2006 at 05:07 PM. Reason: new image link |

Re: Porsche 928 S4 (testors/italeri)
Your pix is not working (for me)?
My Fujimi S4 doesn't have any S4 decals at all. But, after looking at used S4's online, I only found 1 with the decal still on the car. The full scale original decals seem to have been simply printed on clear stickers. Pretty nice for a 80K$ car!

Re: Porsche 928 S4 (testors/italeri)
The car is stripped and primed again, and I have been fighting with the panel lines around the rear bumper for a while, but its very hard to make them look straight and good with a scriber by freehand.
I'm actually considering to putty them away, but that would be a shame and I know I'm not going to be happy with it and end up buying a new kit. So does anyone have any good advice on how to make new panel lines? (I have filled the old ones with Tamia basic putty).

Re: Porsche 928 S4 (testors/italeri)
When I used to build aircraft models I would fill the old panel lines with gap filling super glue, let it dry and sand the superglue flush with the surrounding surface. Then use a round ended sewing pin held in a pin vise or an Olfa P Cutter to cut the new lines in.You can use a steel ruler,a strip of thin plastic sheet or a template etc to keep the lines straight.Curved lines are a bit tricky though.Steve.

Re: Porsche 928 S4 (testors/italeri)
As far as panel lines go, you could try using electrical tape as a guide. This kind of tape is nice because it can be reused, and seems to bend and hold form nicely. Also, it's somewhat thick, so a knife blade can follow it's contour. Cut a thin long piece, say, 1/8" wide by 3". Lay the tape on you model where you want the new panel line to be. Run your blade/scriber along the edge lightly many times, and increase pressure as you go. Remember, panel lines are actually gaps on real cars, so start scribing lightly, but go deep eventually. That will help keep the lines crisp when you add paint layers. Hope that helps.
