p0102 code

ok 99 GP SE 3.8

been showing a p0102 code for a while i have changed the MAF sensor twice now cause each time the code would go away for a day or so and then it comes right back, ive already checked for like physical damages to wiring and harnesses and appears to be none, i would like to know if any one can help or provide me some information on what might be the problem or how to diagnose it
that would be great
thanks

Is the car stock or any mods such as intake? P0102 DTC means MAF sensor low frequency. Possible causes are blockage at intake screen, vacuum leak at the intake manifold or throttle body, EGR valve flange leak. Also a defective or improperly sealed PCV valve. Try cleaning the throttle body.

Check the reference voltage with a voltmeter at the yellow wire of the MAF sensor electrical connector plug for approx. 5 volts. After that you'll need to ohm out signal and ground wiring between the PCM and MAF sensor.

Make sure the connector plugs on the PCM have no corrosion and are tight. The last item on the list if none of the above is a possible defective PCM. Good luck!

Do you have a K&N filter on the car. GM and ford are having problems with k&N filters shorting out the MAF sensors from the filter oil getting on the sensor and shorting them out and most of gm and ford dealerships will now void the warranty if you put a k&N on your car.

I've got a K&N filter on my Thrasher CAI and I've never had problems with it causing MAF sensor problems. BTW - Its not the K&N filter thats the problem, its the filter oil if you put too much on it.

I could care less what GM will do to my warranty because it ran out back in 2001.

alright yeah its only going to affect warranties of 2004 and up. And most of the time it is people putting too much oil on it thats causing the problems. I have a thrasher cold air on mine and i never had a problem with mine.

The possibilities provided earlier would be a good starting point. Its right out of the GM service manual for the GP and specifically addresses DTC error code P0102.
