95 camry barely runs
My sister's 95 camry died on her while driving.I got it here to my place and got it to start. If you try to accelerate it, it dies. if you press pedal slowly, it will go to about 3000rpms. If I go to fast it dies. It barely idles, maybe 300rpms and car shakes. I changed fuel filter, and she had timing belt changed maybe a year ago. Any ideas? it has the 2.2 4 cylinder, a lil over 230,000 miles on it. It runs better untill it gets to operating temp.

Check the codes. Most likely problem is the HO2 sensor or coolant temperature sensor.

Re: 95 camry barely runs
In addition to what Brian suggested, I would also check the coil inside the distributor for cracks. You will probably have to remove the coil to inspect it for cracks. You can also check the coil for being in spec with a digital volt/ohmeter and the specs from any manual. However, many times they test in spec but still are faulty because of cracking. That's why I suggest removing it from the distributor and visually inspecting it for cracks.

I changed gas filter and one thing i did notice. It would not pump fuel unless I was turning engine over. is this normal? Im used to chevys that prime fuel when the key is turned on.

This is normal. That was a good idea about the ignition coil.

Re: 95 camry barely runs
I removed coil and was replacing with a new one and the connector on the end of one of the wires fell off. wasnt crimped tight. I replace connector and put in new coil and all is well. Thanks to everyone
