Well Road&Track dynoed it at 223 bhp, I think, then they said that they calculated it to 238 hp at the crank, that's around a 7 percent loss in drivetrain, how good is that compared to the WRX's. They also are starting to call the SRT-4 the four door Viper, after all it's the second fastest vehicle Dodge makes. Up until they stick the new Hemi's in a car maybe, hopefully that's fast!!! The things Dodge is doing nowdays, they're gonna be the greatest.

First of all I wouldn’t compare the srt-4 to a wrx anyways. Only thing its about the same 0-60. I don’t have anything to back me up but Im betting that the awd of a wrx hand the fwd srt its tail in the turns. I am quite impressed with the neon, going to look at one today even, but Im concerned about reliability. Dodge has never had a great track record much less on a blown engine. Oh and btw a Evo don’t even come into play between either the wrx or the neon that’s like a 10k difference I hope it would do something better.

I don't think the SRT-4 can compare to a WRX, but Dodge cars are not unreliable. My friend had a Dodge daytona with a turbo, and man that thing pulled. He never had any probles with reliability. When you buy a bean counter 12,000 dollar neon then you have problems, but the SRT-4 is $20,000, it can handle it. If it was rear drive, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Well, no crap. It has 300HP and cost $10,000 - $15,000 more. Think before you type.

The sti is 10 to 15k more like he said, and for 10 grand you can easily make an srt-4 way faster than an sti. I dont see why anyone would buy an sti.

because I bet they are a blast to drive and its fast. I personally am not one for straight line speed only but I like a fast car. I would buy a 30k sti before a 30k stank cobra just because it would out handle it and still be fast

I'll agree with that, I think that the Cobra is a poor excuse for a sports car, hell the STi will beat it down the straight and on the twisties.

The STi cannot hang with an '03 Cobra when
it comes to the straights. It lags way behind.
(The 1/4 times are roughly 1 second slower.)

i doubt the 7% was legitimate.

the best fwd drivetrains are still at about 15% loss...

which would put the srt4 at about 250ish hp...

even more realistically, since the avg fwd hp loss is closer to 20%... it's closer to 270... under rated...

and the tq is similar... puts down 240, but claimed at 250? that would put it damn near 300... hmm... not too shabby...

i'm just amazed that everyone is focusing on straight line... and then claiming that the neon can't handle for shit.

is that b/c you've read that the wrx, sti, and evo can handle really well? is it b/c they are awd? what is it exactly?

has anyone taken a neon through the twisties yet?

and keep in mind that the neon didn't have it's own scca series b/c it didn't handle...

I hate to tell you but the new SVT Cobra hasn't seen better than the 13s in the 1/4 from anyone that has tested it. Guess what, the STi runs 13s stock as well, so in the 1/4 mile it will come down to the driver. You can't argue with me that the STi will kill the SVT in the turns. The damn thing drives like a truck.

Also, on the Neon handling issue, the SRT-4 has been kicking ass in SCCA rally events in its class. For a FWD car it can handle pretty well. It does need an LSD, some better springs, and struts.

Hot Rod ran a 12.93 @ 114.5 mph in the '03 Cobra.
The car is capable of 12.9s on stock tires, no problem.

As for a Neon SRT-4, it can do 13.9s for just $20K!

Question Should I get one?

I have managed to scrabble together up to $20,000 for a car. I was wondering if I should get an SRT-4 based on it's unproven reliability and estimatedly horrible gas mileage. Could anyone tell me why I wouldn't just get a used WRX or RSX type-S?
