92 Camry NO Backup Lights
Bulbs, wiring and fuses are fine. Backup lights sometimes work for short periods of time if you jiggle the socket on top of the PNP switch. Tried spraying the sockets with wd 40 but did not help. Does anyone know if cleaning the PNP will resolve this?

Re: 92 Camry NO Backup Lights
I forgot to mention it is an automatic 4 cylinder and the "R" light does not light.

Re: 92 Camry NO Backup Lights
WD40 is not appropriate for cleaning a switch or electrical socket. Use non-residue cleaner. Clean it and see if it helps. That is the easy way to figure out if cleaning helps or not. If not, buy a new one.

Re: 92 Camry NO Backup Lights
It was PB Blaster spray and after setting over night all is good now. The R light comes on as it should and so do the backup lights.

Re: 92 Camry NO Backup Lights
Clean it further with a real cleaner before the PBBlaster attracts more junk. PB Blaster is not a cleaner either.

Re: 92 Camry NO Backup Lights
That's a too simplistic assessment. You contaminated it, now you have to clean it.

Re: 92 Camry NO Backup Lights
It's still shining bright because the BP Blaster cut through all that grease and debris that was preventing good current flow and serves to keep out the bad stuff. She be good to go now!

Re: 92 Camry NO Backup Lights
Hey I was just testing your patience. I apologize for the continuation. I sold the Camry and bought a new 2012 Tacoma and I see you are the moderator on that forum too so I had better behave. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.

You're welcome. As long as you don't call me an idiot or worse, no worries. It was a good job that you figured out your problem.
