Hasegawa 037 Tour de Corse (pics)

Here's two pictures of my Hasegawa Lancia 037, one of the very few models I finished last year. Some of you may remember it from AF2002 modeling contest.

I opened the engine hatch and added some scratch built details to fill in the engine compartment as the kit only provides very basic details.

Body is painted in Tamiya acrylic white (the bottle type) and polished. There is no clear coat, as I've found that Tamiya's bottle type clear yellows slightly in time. I also think that the shine of the paint and markings is different in real life.

To be honest, the model isn't 100% ready yet as I haven't found suitable Rothmans texts for the blue areas on doors and roof (Hasegawa's decal sheet doesn't include these and the texts have even been retouched from box photos )

Feel free to comment or ask questions

I have nothing to say! is excellent job. 1 question...is the 037 hard to build and how much after market parts had to spend to look like your 1?

You entered this one for the April rally car model contest, didn't you.

It would be a good winner i guess we'll see, it will be a tough competition.

It isn't as easy to build as recent Tamiya kits, but it isn't too difficult. If you have built other Hasegawa rally cars then you'll now what to expect.
Decals were a bit brittle and hard to get right.

The only detail set I used was Hasegawa's etched set. I also took etched seatbelt buckles from somewhere. All the rest was just some usual detailing material such as aftermarket sparkplug wire, graphic tape, different metal wires, some mesh, milliput, plastic card, aluminum plate, plastic tube etc.

Final weathering was done by airbrushing mist coats of dark greybrownish paint on lower parts of the body.

Yes, on the BMOM site. I also entered it in Cheapesthobbies.com February race car contest. I hope I'm not milking this trophy cow too much now..

April contest will be a tough one, it was(and is) great to see that the standard is really high there.

I love this model, you have captured the essence of the 037 extremely well in my opinion.
Thanks for posting this here and showing all you did to the car
Where did you find your reference materials? I have found it very hard to get good reference material for this car

I too found it difficult to find good reference pics for this project. The books I used were Klein's Rally and Rally Cars, an old Lancia Racing book (which had a cut away drawing of an early 037) and then I searched pictures from the net.

Museum Collection had some good detail shots, http://www.museumcollection.co.jp/037I.htm .

I was told by someone that FIA's classification documents have very detailed information on about anything on these cars. I don't know if it's possible to get these documents from FIA or are they even meant for the public, but those might be worth looking for.

Definitely remember your awesome 037 replica Mikko. I voted for it in the AF 2002 model contest!

If fact it is a shame it is so good since we'll have to compete against it in the BMOM Rally car competition

Only joking - good to see such a high standard of craftsmen building models of the some of the most exciting cars the world has ever seen

The Rothmans logos are included in the Studio 27 photoetched set. Wong has them at MediaMix hobbies.
