Some of the absolute best news possible, #16R is being repainted back to it's original FINA Bigazzi livery.

Original news was posted in the flemke thread on PH, here's the evidence from the owner on Twitter anyway.

https://twitter.com/MB_IFM/status/563073103027503104

EDIT - for some reason neither [IMG] nor adding the image as an attachment will work for me, any help guys?

Yes, this is good thing. Brilliant!
Last time when it wore that livery, was that Tour in 1997 January. Seen the car in Helsinki. I don't know how soon it got the Orange livery after this show tour.

I expect it'll be further forward than this pic - rear lights in, engine possibly in, still in white without the stickers though

Awesome! So maybe roadlegal?

carbuilder2002
03-02-2015, 06:22 PM
Hmm very few testing stations would be able to accomodate a vehicle with that low a ground clearance and shallow entry / exit angles onto the brake test rollers. You need an arangement where the rollers lift up and lift the wheels clear of the deck once the car is in place.

Looks like it's riding higher so I'd guess it's had a fair bit of work done to make it road legal.

I can understand why you'd do it to get more driving time out of your hard earned investment but I just think it's a bit of a shame. Similarly I wish all the short tailed GTR's were still in full blown race mode rather than set up for the road.

Sami Aaltonen
03-04-2015, 06:05 AM
Yes I bet this is quite interesting. For me, I really would like to shoot the car in it's racespecs in 73rd MM, but most important thing is it's confirmed to be present so that's the main thing.

This is quite the same thing than that 917 Porsche which is in Road legal in Germany I think. And that Japanise Group C Porsche, that Rothmans liveried.
These Longtail GTR's are 90% racers or a bit more, so it's incredible to get these to the roads. I think we are not used to see these in road legal, the higher ride height and so on; needs time.

But some one told me also that "Porsche has that GT1 and Mercedes that CLK GTR also road legal". Well, this is much much..MUCH more tuffer thing than those road versions from those race versions. This #19R even today; with MOT; it's true racer not a leather seated and comfortable Gran Touring, which just seems to be close that race CLK GTR or GT1 Porsche. More that comparing should be done F1 GT, not the Longtail GTR.

Still I think, the difference with road legal shortail and racespec shortail is much less than this Longtail. Of course.
Let's see what this brings up.

As far as I am aware no longtails have been converted for road use when I made enquiries with Lanzante back in the days when I was contemplating taking the plunge they told me that it was unsuitable for conversion on a number of levels mainly front overhang and would need major re-engineering to allow the suspension to lift when required, of course that was about ten or twelve years ago and technology has moved on so not saying it can't be done just that back tehn it was not even considered viable hence why they are almost all still in race condition.
No doubt people closer to these sort of things will enlighten us all. Any input MSO?

Sami Aaltonen
03-06-2015, 06:10 AM
Lets make this clear;
MOT registered Longtails are then:

- #21R seems like it it has road plates even it did not looked as high ride height than #19R. But it has plates then to drive to the roads?

- #19R got the plates

- #27R seems to be some where there, the image which seen last years Classic Silverstone raceweekend. It had plates on the front.

Anyway, it's incredible to see these Longtails to geting road legal. Must be fantastic to drive.! Real Racer!

Begs the question of why it needed an MOT though.

carbuilder2002
03-07-2015, 06:48 PM
This is true as any car not used on the public highway will not need an MOT, we clearly need clarification on what the state of play is regarding conversion of longtails.

hurstg01
03-08-2015, 09:48 AM
All may become clear in a few weeks, possibly sooner, but its fair to say this longtail conversion has been a long time coming, has been meticulously done and had the correct input and help along the way, and the private road number plate might be on it by around the 73rd MM

Will elaborate more when the time is right

I see your point about the GT ground clearance but still I would be betting it would be having serious trouble with speed humps hence why any serious conversion would need some lifting arangement to lift the nose when required.

Yes the line up is very amazing. Of course I haven't visited things like these before so all those other cars also like Bird Cage Maserati, 250F, Bugatti's all those what really is not seen any time in Finland; and that Group C.
