Those times..when Listers and all others were on those racers....The GOlden Years of GT racing!
Cars that never going to see or built ever.

24r was the only GTR there this year. A bit disappointing after last years good turnout! The demo lap on Saturday only had a small turn out also. Didn't see the Listers or Mercedes or McLaren on track.
We have been spoiled this year though by previous GTR turnouts at events!
Don't think I will ever see 20 plus Mclarens again in one year of my life!
One interesting car in the 90's area was the 1996 Lotus gt 1 car,that raced with the GTR's in the BPR series all that year. This was a great car I had never seen before,allthough it was a bit of an on going project with no engine,and other parts missing.
The owner was a nice guy, who was telling me about the car,and his lack of help from Lotus,in sorting it out! This was the car that was on fire in one of the races,and the driver ran away quickly from the car! Think it could keep up with the GTR's sometimes!
Hopefully he will get it back on track. A piece of history from the classic GT racing years.

Yes the Elise GT1 is very cool. I have seen the one and only roadcar at Silverstone quite some years ago.

The Elise GT 1 was not at Silverstone this year. Of course it was up against the longtail GTR in 1997.
A great one off road car I agree,not seen for a few years!

I saw those Elise GT1's in Helsinki. It was superb racer. Loved the sound.!

#19R and #20R are at Silverstone, any reason why?

Who currently own the F1 Gtr #02R?

Almost certain one of the Lanzante clan either Dean or Paul and pretty sure they have no plans of letting it out of their grasp in anything like the near future.

It's not owned by the Lanzante's - I know of the owner but can't say more than that - It is in good hands though :)

I am extremely surprised that it is no longer owned by them as when I was looking into aquiring 11R they told me they were very unlikely to part with it.
Anyway they clearly have so was it bought from them before or after the re-fit, my guessing is before?

They didn't own it before then either. They were likely shielding the actual owner whose intention at the time was not to sell it. Refit happened after the sale.

Ok slightly annoyed at being deliberatley missinformed but I do understandtheir motives.
Am also very intruigued as when I first began posting on here I was told thet #02R was owned by someone in the North of England if not the Borders with Scotland. When I then heard that Lanzante owned it I naturally accepted that as they had raced it then they were in fact the owners and they never said that they were'nt.
It now opens the question was my first information correct, though to be honest I doubt anyone owning it would keep it at the other end of the country.
Secondly is it still owned by the person who had it when it was blue or did it change hands before the re-fit?
This mystery of #02R has always haunted me from my early interests but was waylaid when I thought I knew who the owners were.

Sorry you state that the re-fit was done after it changed hands missed that one. I assume we are not at liberty to mention who did own it before the sale?

Nothing concrete yet...

Last I heard it still hadn't changed hands despite claims/suggestions to the contrary. We may not know the truth until September.

Yes I assumed if it were to find a new owner it would find it's way back to MSO first before being shipped to it's new home.

#25R still showing as unsold through Kidston (http://www.kidston.com/kidston-cars/2560/1997-McLaren-F1-GTR-Long-Tail) - too high an asking price? or top of the market reached [for now]?....

Emanuele told me in Monterey that 25R was being sent to MSO for a complete overhaul. It may be there now, and I've also heard that 007 is in for its annual wallet lightening process.

Has 19R changed hands? And when you say 25R is with MSO, do you mean it was sold by Kidston and its owner has it at MSO? How much did it sell for?

About what are the GTRs selling for?

Good question - I wouldn't say I'm super confident in all the numbers I have heard enough to put them to print. Suffice to say that like the road cars, prices are continuing to move upwards. Also the right GTR is capable of bringing as much or more money than a road car which hasn't always been the case. One of the cars on that list apparently sold not because it was in the market, but rather because the owner received an offer he couldn't refuse.

The chance of the longtails getting converted to road spec tempting people to sell them/buy them?

The GTR's used to be a very good price compared to the road cars, people seem to have eventually realized that they are the ones that will eventually be the more valuable as is what tends to happen with ex race cars that have history. Only the very best and probably least used road cars will keep pace value wise as time passes.

After teasing the news earlier with a Tweet, Tom Hartley formally announced the sale of two longtail GTRs this week via his Twitter and IG accounts. The cars are obviously #19R and #27R and while he wasn't the selling agent the story goes that he did help facilitate them finding new homes.

Interesting indeed. What #27R will be in the future, road specs or not. We will see some point. GOod that these unique racers finds their home quick. I remember years ago when #16R was on sale looooong time.....and so on.

It's probably also important to mention here that GTR 24R has changed hands some time ago - not quite sure exactly when. I'm told that since that transaction took place it has returned to the original FINA livery it wore in 1997.

It is a bit of a shame to hear of the loss of a unique livery which had highlighted the EMKA team's great accomplishment as a privateer to come 4th at Le Mans in 1998, but it does make sense and probably most would prefer it.

We are living very interesting times this moment. At least 6 or 7? GTRs have been changed hands inside one year.
When writing this this evening at home ; I feel more than lucky to see 73MM in 2015. Many of these have left or will leave Europe I think and will end collections
which makes sure we don't see them around really much. I think....
