Recap of the North American F1 fleet

I'm quite sure that Simon knows Miles of Morris & Welford - probably knows Malcolm too. There's a chance Simon is involved or a possibility that it previously passed through his firm as there's quite a different scene in the photos of course.

I am actually tempted to move this string of posts to the UK Fleet thread as that's where I believe this car to be sitting presently, but for now it's not a big deal I guess. Funny too as that's where Greg first posted it. ;)

BTW: If rain-soaked F1s are your thing, you can take the URL of that image of 053 and replace the 660 at the end with 1500 and find a much larger image when you load the page. :cool:

Would it be #022? The lighting is confusing me.

It is 022 - that's taken outside the Revs Institute in the back by the pond.

That's showing a little darker than the true color of the car.

Would be willing to bet this is the first sighting of LM2 on US roads. Pic was sourced from Reddit according to who sent it my way and shows the car somewhere near Baltimore where it would likely be hanging around at JK Technologies to have its EPA work completed.

Travel lugs are the extended wheel nuts you can just see, often with a red or a blue band round them, that transporters use to tie the car down in transit :thumbsup:

It looks like a shot of #015 from 1994. The current spec of Jay's car seems pretty much the same as when it was new. :)

That's exactly what it is - first owner of Jay's F1 was in the UK and his car remains as originally delivered. These are better images than the ones I've seen from that event previously - thanks for finding and sharing. :cool:

first rumors/messages are that it's back in the same white/red, but I haven't seen actual pics

I kind of doubt 072 is 'home' as I do not believe it has been back to the USA since departing for its refit in 2011. However, it is confirmed as complete and I do believe it was restored in the same configuration it first appeared in back in 2012 after the factory finished the refit for its current owner. Personally, were I the owner, getting a chance to do it again I would have given serious consideration to a darker color for the top of the dashboard as the reflection of it on the windscreen in the daylight was very apparent.

Finally made some long overdue updates to the first post. The effort is not entirely complete so I'll have to work to fill in some blanks in the near future. There's still one thing in there I know is inaccurate thanks to a very recently sale of chassis 068, but I will update that when I have more info.

If I have made any obvious mistakes, or if you can think of anything I've overlooked and have details I might need to know to make it more complete, please feel free to share publicly or privately. :)

Car was in the market for a while via Aaron Hsu and eventually sold to Germany as of 2016. Originally with Yoshikuni Okamoto in Japan and painted white with "McLaren" decals on the luggage doors. Sold to the USA in 2010.

That sounds like straight cut gears, at least for 1st gear which he's probably in. So did they use a GTR race box rather than road spec? Also what about the steering rack, is that also race spec? I know the engine upgrades minus restrictor, aero kit, wheels and miscellaneous weight savings were transfered from the GTR-95 but what else do the LM and race car share that may be less known?

Yes, the LMs use the straight-cut box from the F1 GTRs and the whine is there in every gear, competing with the wonderful sounds made by that V12. The casing on the LM's gearbox is aluminum instead of the GTR's magnesium but internals the same.

The LM's also share the GTR's quicker ratio steering, with 2 turns lock-to-lock - a change from the standard road car's 2.8 turns. I know that all the F1s fitted with 18" wheels also require a limit to the steering angle to keep the tires from coming into contact with important bits of the chassis. (Side note: Not certain if that requires a change to the GTR steering rack on an HDF Kit equipped-F1, but it could.)

From "Driving Ambition" in reference to the LM: "...following the specification of the Le Mans-winning F1 GTR, the chassis, engine and transmission virtually identical, being modified only enough to make them road useable."

Thanks for the photos! LM2 looks fantastic. I've always loved the side profile shot of the F1 with the doors open like in your first pic. I'm glad the new owner puts his cars on display for the public to enjoy. Can't wait to see more pics. :)

Speaking about F1s in NA. I know 044 used to live on the east coast but after the auction did the car move to the west coast permanently? Wondering because i saw a post that had a west LA tag and looks like the Mclaren Service center there.

Also, both those BMW service (NJ/CA) centers no longer service F1s. They all go to McLaren of Philly and off site a few miles away. Only 1 tech there is qualified to work on them and is the only guy in the country.

Amazing pictures indeed. Well I've got some new wallpapers that make me drool everytime I see that BMW V12 removed from its chassis. Considering the facility itself seems to be off the radar for what would be a few reasons (security, client confidentiality etc) it was good of McLaren to allow photography inside there.

Looks like #045 as its too dark to be Mag silver and the only other color(that i can think of) is Dark Silver in the US.

The other car spotted in Beverly Hills wasn't 045, but actually the F1 road car that belongs to Lawrence Stroll of Montreal, Canada. That was his F60 America parked beside it and (I think) his 275 NART Spider was also present in the garage, along with a couple of other nice toys. They were not around for long at that location and have already departed to somewhere outside California as I understand. Sadly I was 1,800 miles from home when I got the news and missed any opportunity to see the car. <sigh>

Thanks. I didn't think to link the two being he's Canadian and the car is the F60 "America." I assumed all 10 went to US customers. Of course it's really NART/FNA, which includes Canada...whoops on my part. :)
