Chassis #042 has made an appearance at Club Auto Sport - the same place XP4 is sometimes stored. They had an event there this past weekend called "Bulldogs, Bentleys & Bangers - Celebrating all things British"

A friend sent me this photo he'd found on another friend's Facebook page from the event. Initially it appeared to be #038, but given the small size I couldn't be entirely certain:

http://i43.tinypic.com/2dtt0nc.jpg

Then this photo appeared on Flickr, again looking kind of orange-ish and also tagged with 'Club Auto Sport'. Since I still had #038 on the brain it took me a second to realize that the visual clues in this shot - standard headlamps, roof antenna, interior treatment w/quick-release steering wheel - make it chassis #042 instead, almost without a doubt.

I asked the photographer to confirm the chassis number, but he didn't happen to know. He says he has more photos but apparently only plans to share the ones he really thinks are special. Maybe I can beg and plead for him to share copies of the ones he doesn't plan to publish in his gallery, but I'll wait and see what else he ends up sharing before bothering him further about it.

Nice to see this car again though. :)

Phil - I've not been told of any that will be in Monterey for sure this year, but its the most likely place to find one in all of North America on an annual basis. Sometimes you even get lucky and find two. (like I did, twice :sunglasse)

Patrick - the color is supposed to be Ferrari's "Rosso Corsa". In previous photos (see page 1) it didn't have that same 'wow' factor, but I'll admit this shot is really quite wonderful.

The dimensions look a bit off, if you ask me. Not too sure whether the car was put onto a background, but that's the feeling I get when looking at the lines.

Most definitely - the original photo was taken inside the SVAG showroom and then a lot of work was put into it to hide that fact.

only one in red?

Peloton25
08-22-2010, 12:23 PM
Nope, not the only one. There's another red one hidden away in Singapore that has a black interior. Also chassis #004 was originally painted red. I strongly believe it was built for the Brunei Royal Family, but it did not appear on the Brunei garage list and has never been located to my knowledge. There have been rumors over the years of a red one in a private collection in Monaco, and another rumor that Force India team owner, Vijay Mallya, owns it now but nothing more than that. :dunno:

Is that Singapore one possibly #021? At least it had dark grey or black interior as it was photographed in the Park Lane show room in 1995. Also isn't the #042 currently red with red/black interior?

Wasn't that list just one of their garages? Like, one fifth of their collection or something?

Or is that considered to be their entire car collection (as of whatever year it was published... What year was it published???)

'Yes' on your first question. 'Duh' on your second point - my brain was only thinking of original cars. :headshake

Wasn't that list just one of their garages? Like, one fifth of their collection or something?

That's how it was explained. So if a car was not in Garage #5 or was in another part of the world it wouldn't have been on that list.

Updated the first post with new owner info for #062 who introduced himself on another forum. :sunglasse

I also added a spot for the newest F1 to arrive in the USA - chassis #066 which was previously an 'unknown'. So far no photos of it yet, but hopefully we'll get some soon. I'm also hopeful we'll learn something about the car's history.

I made a few other minor tweaks to the text for some of the other chassis numbers just to keep things in line with current info.

Hillsborough Concours was September 12th.

#066 is supposed to look identical to #065. That's not too surprising as that whole string of cars that was built in 1997 - #062-#070 - are all pretty similar.

possibly, through a business connection of the owner

Peloton25
11-21-2010, 10:13 AM
I used to think there was some logic behind that idea given his past business dealings wtih the Brunei Investment Agency but have unofficially backed away from that theory now. In a way that kind of bums me out because it means there are two cars missing from the Brunei collection and not just the one that is reported to have been totaled.

It's only a matter of time before this car's real chassis number is public knowledge I think.

Yes, it should still be in Japan. The advertiser is in the USA and I believe he prefers not to give too much away with his ads.

Al- That is chassis #029 in the photo. The Chassis History poster lists the color for that one as "Brazilian Brown" but I now strongly believe they have the color names reversed between that car and #039, so actually this is the "Creighton Brown" car.
