so friday was long. i worked all day on a Habitat house (got sunburned behind my knees...when EVER does that happen?), then i went to a buddy's house to help him on his timing belt for his VR4 (building a 20g/18g combo beast of a car), and THEN i had already promised a friend i would replace his leaking valve cover gaskets on his 97 grand cherokee v8.

so last night, i decided to treat myself, since i don't get to much nowadays. before busting out the tools to work on the jeep, i dropped by the convenience store adn picked up 2 Bud Ice 40's. oh yea. :cheers:

so i've heard its a pain to work on import cars? bullcrap! this v8 engine mounts the length of the car, so the back bolts holding the valve cover on are under the firewall where it curves under the dash. and i also had to remove a bunch of hoses and crap routed over the valve cover. oh, adn get this, the water pump hose route over the valve cover, through the firewall, and back out into the engine bay. not sure why the hell it goes into the cabin through the firewall, but it does, and its just a big PITA.

so in my frustration, i was tipping the bottle to help the situation. i finally get the valve cover off, clean it, put the new gasket on and gasket sealer on....then i decide to call a few people BEFORE i have reinstalled the valve cover + new gasket. haha. so while i'm talking to old friends, the gasket sealer is drying. then i go to fasten the valve cover down with bolts, and i can only get one bolt to go in, the rest just spin and threads don't catch. well crap...i think i know why: i don't have a freakin clue at this point. so i put it up, go grab some Taco Cabana (for you nothern ppl, greatest mexican fast food ever), then call it a night.

now i have to finish the job in less than an hour before the Texas vs. OU game starts. hmmm...i wonder if i'll finish in time. :grinno: :icon16:

Hmm guys it might not be my alternator after all the car ran the other night with lights on and system going and didnt' die. I mech. told me to take the postive battary cable off the battary while its running if it dies its the alternator. We did and lo and behold it ran for a good min after words......:screwy:

So i am going to get advance to test it out and see what they think.

when you pull the cable off make sure you turn your lights on and radio on. it only takes about 40 amps to run your car.. and a bad alt can somtimes still do that much.. but when you have a load on it, if its bad it shouldn't stay running.. with the weather getting colder i would say take your battery somewhere and have them test it.. it the cells are bad in that it can suck all the power your alternator is putting out

Alternator is good had them test it the battary had alot of corosion on it and wasn't getting a good charge. But it did fine i drove it for bout 3 hours now around and about started everytime no hesatatoin at all.

in my defense, regarding my previous post, let me say that today when i looked at the valve cover, there was a loom of wires underneath, preventing the valve cover from fitting flush with the head.

Whats messed up is I couldnt figure it out when I saw it posted here. Of course I had just woken back up. Then I saw the post over on 3si and was like OMGWTFBANANAPOPSICLEBBQCHIPS. Crazy stuff there.

Looks to me like your motor mounts f*cked. Do I win anything?

Thats not whats wrong. The motor mount is just missing the rubber covers that go on either side of it. The paint is scratched around there. Look lower in the engine bay.

Looks like a timing belt pulley is coming out of the timing belt cover.

ROFL. At least, it probably came off all together or snapped due to constantly wearing down.

THe car in the pic was only run for lik 2 months if I remember right. He was supposed to tear it down to check out the damage today.

Wow no action in over a day! Well my friend brandon who has the blue stealth is finally gonna change his oil. It was getting somewhat dark at the end of the summer and i told him to change it, well 2 months went by and still the same oil. His car has developed some pretty nasty lifter tick. But friday hes bringing it over and we are gonna change it. Hes also gonna paint some accents under my hood, he did some on his and it actually looks good. And btw we got a little snow today, it was rediculous. It was 85 last friday and now its 32 outside. Well im done ranting.

Well since you know how long it lasted and who won..lol. Just watch their 2nd fight...the 3rd was pretty much just a replay. What was great was I hadn't seen much of the Ultimate Fighter 3, well I was stuck up in NY with nothing to do all day, and luckily, they had a full season marathon all day before the fight so I watched that.

So I quit for the night, got REAL drunk, and then went up to NY for a week. Eagles beat Dallas (what a game!) so that helped a little. I'm up here for a few more days with my gf and brother, then I'm going back home and starting from scratch. Something simply doesn't add up, I've been racking my brain every night when I go to bed, and just can't figure it out. So I'm just gonna go back to the beginning and recheck everything again. And no I'm not trading any of you for your NAs...haha, no!

so i finally got around to doing some stuff to my car. i installed the 2nd rear speaker. Focal is the brand, and the sound in effin incredible. sounds like a theater in my car. clarity is unparalleled. makes those Infinity Kappas sound like cracker jacks. seriously, check them out. http://www.focal.tm.fr/accueil_en.htm,

also, i removed the rear wiper motor (to remove rust and paint it black), remove rear weather stripping along the trunk to clean underneath (crap & water was getting under it) and re-seal, and i glued some plastic pieces back on (with epoxy) my new 2nd gen rear bumper!!

so all i have left to do is fabricate a plastic bracket with bondo for my driver's side skirt, reform/bang/hammer the driver's fender so the lines along the hood fit tight, find a 1G turn signal and a 1G 3000 fog light, then take her to paint (for the fender), and then she'll be looking more like the batmobile. then there's that issue with the stock 16 wheels and crappy tires. i really want new wheels (and need new tires), but don't wanna spend a but load on wheels.

but this weekend is my college's homecoming, so i'll be reliving the party scene with my classmates :cheers: . no, i'm not being THAT guy by going back to college parties...its homecoming so it ok...right?:uhoh:.

but also there is a band playing Friday night at my school called Barefoot. they're quite a talented bunch of guys, a few of whom i knew from high school. they do incredible 4-part harmonies and are not your typical pop boy band, but very good musicians and vocalists. releasing their first big cd (Geffen Records) after song-writing in L.A., touring Europe, and opening for Jessica Simpson on the road in the U.S. so if you haven't heard of them, go check them out.

IGO maybe its time to look for another engine harness. Theres got to be a fault somewhere thats just not seen

Actually now that I think about Deathsled over on 3si has a 96 VR4. I am almost sure he had crazy issues with getting CEL's and it turned out that there was some major fault in the early 96's. I think he ended up getting his ECU replaced under recall. It may not have been deathsled but I KNOW it was a 96. May be something to look into.

Haha, my dad just called me from my original hometown and informed me of some very good news. Apparently he took the day off of work to try and assemble an entire dirtbike starting with just the frame and then assemble the whole thing. (Just rebuilt the motor last week with him). Well it turns out he was able to do it and got it running agian so we are going to take it out tomorrow and break it in. Certainly a nice surprise.

UFC 64 - Franklin vs Silva...who wins? Franklin's an awesome well-rounded fighter but I haven't seen much of Silva's in-ring abilities. From what I read/hear though, he's an awesome striker and pretty well-rounded as well. I think Franklin in the end will end up on top though. We'll see....gosh I want to see this fight.... Hehe
