please please please don't dismantle that CRX if I was in the US I'd come round and buy it from you.Surely an advert on E bay would get it sold in one bit? That's a great little car....

lxndr

It's already done.

I tried selling it several different ways and had no serious offers. I found that I could get more for this car in parts than I could have selling it as a whole.

I was asking $4,000 for the car or $4,500 for the car and all my spare parts (mostly rare parts). I would have been happy with $3,800 for the car, but no one had an offer that even came close. I'm just about to reach a total of $5,500 for the parts off my car and some of my spares, and I haven't even sold 2/3rds of my spares yet.

What a shame people missed the oportunity,it's hard to find well modified 3G Civics or CRX's over here, plenty of big spoiler rubbish though.
May she rest in peace, good luck with your new project.

May she rest in peace.

She's not dead yet.

I sold the shell to a friend of mine who will be putting it back together with some of my spare parts and some parts from another friend. Between the 3 of us, we have all the parts needed to put this car back together.

That sucks. Your car was my inspiration. *sighs* Now what am I going to do.... I need one of those hoods, though. Know of how to get one for a fair price?

lxndr
11-05-2006, 06:58 AM
I sold mine for $400, you probably won't find a better deal than that. Sometimes they pop up for sale on RPR, but most people are holding on to their hoods since they have temporarily gone out of production.

the POS datsun carb went tits up and the more i tore into it i discovered that one of the previous owners did a number on it and it was pretty much beyond repair. i had an 82 accord carb siting in a box and everything to make it run so i made an adapter plate and mounted that sucker on there, runs like a charm.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I thought you meant that you swapped a Honda motor into a Datsun.

I'm back!

I just bought my CRX back...

again...

for the 3rd time.

Has anyone ever been haunted by a car before?

Anyway here are the plans:

Fully stripped: If a part doesn't serve a purpose or doesn't help me go faster, it get's tossed!

Fiberglass sunroof plug: I'll be making this. Why you ask? Because the sunroof adds about 40 lbs to the worst place possible... the top of the car.

Carbon fiber hood: I tracked down another one (for weight reduction)

14X6 wheels: I'm working on a deal for a set of deep dish Enkei mesh wheels,

Suspension: Undecided (maybe the new Tein kit for 84-87 Civics).

The motor will be a 200HP turbo SOHC VTEC motor mated to a D16A1 tranny.
This is for several reasons:
1) I have a turbo laying around
2) Y8 and Z6 blocks are cheap
3) Tons of aftermarket support
4) Light weight
5) Equal length axles (no torque steer)
6) I'm looking forward to the custom fabrication!

More details to come after I pick up the car!

...again

Unfortunately the deal on the wheels didn't happen. It turns out they were 4x114 not 4x100 like the seller said they were. Oh well, I'll keep looking.

Yes, let the noob bashing begin!

CRX update:
I picked up the CF hood over the weekend and decided on a color to paint the car (it's a secret). I also found a set of 13X6 BBS mesh wheels at the junk yard for $60. Soon I'll be polishing the lips and repainting the mesh.

I know you guys probably don't understand why I would want such small wheels but the answer is simple: Smaller rolling diameter, less unsprung weight and R-compound tire selection. This will make the car handle better, accelerate faster and the R-compound tires will help keep the car pointed where I want it to go. Remember, as Aquarius put it, I'm going for extreme speed!

Oh, I also tracked down a B16. I might have to change my choice for a motor.

I will be using '86-'89 Teg brakes for this project. I looked into using HF aluminum brake drums but decided against them. I actually have a set of HF drums but the idea of dealing with all those little springs really turns me off to the idea. The HF aluminum drums reduce the unsprung weight, but after reading what others have to say about racing with the HF drums, it's pretty much decided that they absolutely suck on a race car. I can go into details as to why this is a bad idea if anyone is curious.

I will also be disconnecting the passenger side brake. As much fun as it was at first, it has really become more of a nuisance. However, I'm going to leave the pedal in the car attached via a spring and a Walker Texas Ranger paperweight, just to give my passenger a brief sense of security. I will however install a tickle-me-Elmo-my-first-drive-along steering wheel on my quick release for additional passenger excitement.

Aww screw it...

I'm just going to swap in a K20.

I've been doing some research and K20's really aren't too incredibly expensive, there's just a ton of custom fabrication involved with the swap.

Eh, more like thanks to your expertise in the automotive field.

And a K20 swap would be beastly. Do it.

custom fabrication is okay, K20 would be monster :)

lxndr

custom fabrication is okay, K20 would be monster :)

That's the whole reason I want to do this swap. So far as I know, it's only been done once in a 1G/3G (3G Civic), the fabrication will be fun, there is a ton of aftermarket support, and a stock N/A RSX K20 is as powerful as a modified B-series. When weighing the pros and cons of building a motor to produce 200HP or swapping in a stock motor that already produces over 200HP, I realized that the cost of the K20 pays for itself.

As soon as I dig the car out and get it home I'll post some pics. Right now it would just be a picture of a white spot in a field of shoulder high grass.

Yes, my CRX was destined do become one of those old cars you see rusting away in some old farmers field, I'm glad I got it back!

Oops...

I sold the car again.

I replaced it with a Porsche 944.

No disrespect to the 1G/3G, but the 944 is a much better platform. It's a front engine RWD car (F/R) but the tranny is in the rear for an almost perfect 50/50 weight balance. Plus, it doesn't have plastic fenders.

Just to keep things going...

I might be picking up a 94 Integra this weekend. The seller is waiting for another offer to come in before he decides who to sell the car to.

This is something I just don't understand; If someone has cash in hand and is making a reasonable offer on your car, why not sell it? I just don't get this whole "first dibs" policy, it has bitten me in the ass on several occasions when I have tried to sell something, so now I have a "show me the money" policy.

Oh well, I probably don't need the car anyway since I already have two other cars I'm building. I actually don't plan turn this car into a project (as I have a habit of doing), I just wanted it so I could have a fun daily driver until I get either the Porsche 944 or MR2 turbo back on the road.

Talk to you guys later...

To make an even 1,200 posts, here's a Porsche project update (if anyone cares). I've got the interior completely stripped out and have repainted everything inside gloss gray. BTW, when I say I've completely stripped out the interior, I mean, I have COMPLETELY stripped out the interior. There is nothing left to remove, not even the seam sealer!

I've pulled out as much useless wiring as possible and left only what is needed to keep the engine running, made brackets to mount the race seat and wired in a "real" start button/switch. I'm also making my own Delrin suspension bushings and as soon as those are done I'll lower the car using a set of 26mm rear torsion bars and 250lb front springs that got for a steal of a price. I've also replaced all the struts and front wheel bearings.

But here's the interesting part...
I recently picked up a 99 Pontiac GTP Supercharged V6 L67 to swap in! These motors put out around 240 HP in stock form, the one I picked up has oversized injectors and an underdrive pulley in the supercharger to add a little more boost/hp.

To quote my hero Cartman...

Quick question... Does the 1G Rex have any sort of VSS that I can pull from? I have an older Dana cruise control that needs a VSS signal (previous previous owner had it hooked up, but the tranny has been replaced and the wires cut...). Pulled the seats out and am currently cleaning out the entire interior. Will post pics w/new dash and clean interior. ;)

lxndr
05-11-2008, 01:50 AM
Yup, you need an 84-87 CRX HF VSS. It is part of the speedometer head so you will need the whole HF speedometer gauge. 86+ Integras and 88+ Civics also use a VSS.

Just be sure to get a VSS from the same manufacturer as your speedo cluster otherwise the swap gets kinda' tricky. Honda used two manufacturers for their speedometers, Nippon Denso and Sekei. They look the same at first glance, but they are constructed very differently.

Well. I'm getting to the point where I might just rebuild the bottom end on my D15 and forget about the b18. I just can't find anything cheaper than $2k... And it's quite discouraging. Still trying to get the body back together. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a fender or two soon, and then get it painted flat black with a red pin-stripe ala Si.

Oh, and I saw this pic on another forum I frequent. Honda-Tech meet in Toronto.
