Exclamation Sub Box???

What type of box is best for large magnet subwoofers? Are custom boxes better than store bought?

plywood is the worst medium to use for sub boxes. After sitting in a hot trunk for so long the binding glue begins to break down. After that is the dreaded box vibration that makes your system sound like shit.

Go particle board, or plexiglass.

To put box together get some liquid nails. Its the best shit. It will keep the box together and no air in or out.

make sure the particle board is compressed. Preferably 3/4 inch. Double check your boxes dimensions, and make sure you do a good job lining everything up together. Plexi glass if you want, and it should turn out good.

the best box to one person isnt necessarily the best box for another. it depends on what type of music you listen to. a ported box will usually be the loudest even with a small amp, but they are big. a sealed box will hit tighter but you need to push it a little harder. bandpass boxes need to be done very precisely in order to sound right. i would buy a bandpass instead of making one because usually it will end up sounding like shit. you really dont save much by building your own box, i would just by one thats professionaly designed, even better would be one specifically for your brand of subwoofer, like the JL stealth, even though that is not their high end output type of box. the material that the box is made of doesnt make the biggest difference in sound, mostly just durability and looks.
