Welfare Drug Tests Good or Bad?

I think this is one of the best ideas ever. If you dont pass you dont get your check you dont eat. Too many people abuse the system as is. I don't know a whole lot about welfare,so if im wrong correct me. I think there should be a length of time you can receive welfare just enough to get people on their feet and if they still dont then too bad, IMO.

I have no problem with the concept of giving benefits only to the worthy.Perhaps it should be extended to include all forms of handout. It's time that the world moved away from universal 'cradle-to-grave' featherbedding.

Let's start denying free hospital care to drunk drivers.

Lets stop paying government superannuation to those who have funds of there own,and those who have not spent their money wisely.

Let's stop paying benefits to those who have spent most of their working life in jail.

Let's stop paying for fathers who abandon their kids when the going gets tough.

Let's stop subsidising alleged artists to produce ugly pieces of 'public art' that the man in the street would rather not own.

Let's stop gifting money to minorities to make television programmes that provide nothing more than a sense of self-validation to their makers.

Let's stop paying wages to prison inmates. They're there to be punished, make them cook for their own kind and launder their own clothes for nothing.

And lets give a bit more to those who have NO food,NO water,NO shelter and NOmedical care through NO fault of their own.

It's a good Idea, but there are ways around most things. I think the most effective way to do things such as this would be to make it random.

You know the welfare system fails when Old Dirty Bastard picked up his welfare check in a limo on MTV.

HAHAHA.. and for that, I love celebrities. saw snoop working at a burger king on tv too.. funniest thing i've ever seen. "would you like a nappy meal?"

I'd rather have free medical than the welfare system. It'd kill off the lazy people draining the economy and save the innocent poor hardworking people who need their kids wisdom teeth removed.

How "free medical" would kill off the lazy people is beyond me...

I work in an industry that sees the fraud perpetrated by a lot (and I mean most) welfare recipients. They put no effort to get off the dole. They get their check and head down for their daily twelve pack. Lazy ass bastards. Sure there are some who really need the help and use it accordingly, but the vast majority are just lazy fucks. They sit on their ass, do not even look for work, don't even go to subsidized vocational job training and they (women) have more kids just to qualify for more money.

Its sad to see multiple generations staying on welfare. Its disgusting. I am tired of funding these losers. I'll gladly help someone on their feet, but as the good book alludes - help those who help themselves. I like having restrictions and hoops for people to jump through to get "free" money. ie my tax dollars.

EVEN THOUGH IT SEEMS LIKE A GOOD IDEA..I HAVE TO AGREE W/ TARANAKI.....IF WELFARE WERE A PRIVATE SECTOR AND SOMEHOW CONTRACTED OUT ...THEN I COULD SEE IT HAPPENING

I agree with everybody on this thread except the part on free medical. The medical care in countries like Canada is probably the worst in all civilized countries. It is like an HMO or lets say a Military hospital. You are typically getting the least qualified people with a license because they are not getting paid what private physicans do. My buddy was born in a navy hospital 30 years ago and their were complications with the birth. The doctor actually pulled him out by his arms very forcefully which to this day has caused him incorrect mobility in one arm. The doctor could have found a better way, but did not because he knew that he would not and could not be held accountable under law.

That's a rather harsh asumption that you have made there about his rationale, tomlong. And I can tell you from personal experience that British military hospitals are every bit as good as any hospital, private or public, that I have ever stayed in.

Sure,if you want wine with your dinner and your own private room with big-screen TV,you should go private. But in this country at least, all the expertise and equipment for critical care and major treatment remains with the public sector. On the few occasions that I have needed treatment,it has always happened promptly and very effectively.I do acknowlege ,however that it is much quicker to get access to certain forms of corrective treatment [such as hip replacement] if you are prepared to pay in order to jump the queue. It's far more lucrative for some surgeons to work with a foot in each camp, in the private sector treating those who have early signs of wear and tear, and in the public hospitals treating those whose condition has deteriorated while they wait for his precious time away from his private practice.

Believe me our hospitals dont have big screen TV's, but I understand your point. I lived with a Canadian Citizen and she had very few good things to say about the medical system in Canada and she is a doctor.
