poor night at track

Well, tonight sucked. Long story short, I ran the same time w/ vtec as I did w/o vtec. Now the only thing I know that would be different and would affect the times is the weather. 2 weeks ago when I ran w/o vtec, it was in the 60's, maybe high 50's and low humidity. Tonight, it was probably in the high 70's, maybe low 80's and VERY humid. Ok, so saying that, here is the rest of the story. I was activating vtec around 4800. Maybe that was too early but when I switched it up to around 5200, it didn't seem to make a difference. So, the only thing I can think is that the weather took away from the affect the VTEC would've made.
The thing that bothers me is that from a 40 roll, BDSTBTCH beat me on the way home. She pulled about a car on me and stayed there. But, from a stop, I beat her by about that same length. Maybe I just need to play with the VTEC engagement points some more. I don't know. Any suggestions?

yeah, I didn't quite put that did I?
My best tonight and 2 weeks ago (w and w/o vtec) was 10.1 @ 66.87 mph with a best 60 ft. of 2.1. These are 1/8 mi. times and I don't know what that would translate into 1/4 mi. time.

watch out with those words

i was telling kenny last night....there is a zc crx & stock 90 si. they race EVERY week. the 90 si wins EVERY week.

reation time and shifting habits make all the difference. no offense kenny but if BDSTBTCH beat you, maybe she was holding her gears longer. engine vs. engine, you have more hp. not a flame but a suggestion from an outside party

constructive criticism, it's all good. I'm glad to hear people's opinions.

1phatcx, I don't have adjustable but I think when I upgrade my shocks I may get the Tokico Illuma's so I can stiffen the rear for launch. I do pretty good on my launches but let me know what you think. What I do is preload. I get to the line, stage, yank the e-brake, I rev to my desired RPM (normally 4500) and slip the clutch so that the car squats, on last yellow, drop E, pop clutch, and nail it to the floor. That normally works for little to no wheelspin at 20 psi in my Dunlop FM901's and about a 2.3 to 2.1 60 ft time.

no comment... lol
seems like that works for u so its all good
try playin around with the rear tire pressure too, maybe 32 psi so there harder and dont create any drag but ur launch sounds really good but definately make the back end stiffer and front looser when u get the adjustable shocks

Dude, I just looked at your site and I love the buggy. I had a 73 bug that ran a 10.4 1/8 mi. I tell you what, with that fiberglass body you should easily hit your 15's. I tell you what to do, get a stock 1600, half the case, get it opened up for 90.5 pistons, slap in an Engle 110 cam with straight cut gears (the gears for whining noises only), pop it back together. Put on some dual kadron carbs (40 mm), 1 5/8" merged exhaust with stinger, get the Compufire ignition upgrade, and run w/o fan belt at track and you should easily hit mid to low 15's. Hell yeah, wish I were there to help on that project.
A buddy of mine has a 68 baja bug with a 2.2 liter Gene Berg motor with hi-flow heads, Engle 110 cam, 90.5 pistons, 94mm crank, CB Performance T3 turbo kit with 52mm EFI throttle bodies, electronic ignition, all the goodies and he spanks new camaro SS's all day. Well, he's been breaking CV's lately but so what.
I like the project and best of luck. I'm at work but I will post a link to my bug when I go home.

try this budget boost mod...on the fan housing there are 2 outlets for the heater boxes right? Well what you do is take the hoses that would normally run to the heater boxes and route them up to a t above the carburetor and then that will dump into the venturi creating a ghetto boost setup. It will idle high but it did make a small amount of power on my friends bug. He only did it as a joke for a lil while but it was kinda funny to feel it work. Another thing to try with a stock setup would be a velocity stack on top of the carburetor. You can get J-tubes which will flow better than the heater boxes to the muffler. That helps. I would personally spend a lil money and get a scavenger setup for a muffler replacement and get rid of the stock muffler, you will be surprised with the gains.
