Question 02 Bravada Smart Track fails: no AWD

Under warranty back in 03 or so, the AWD smart track did not work...I noticed it when the rear wheels would spin on ice. Normally you could feel the smart track work and switch the power to the other wheel. So I took it to the Old dealer and they fixed it. But I do not remember what it was...maybe a sensor?

Well, now its 2009 and I just noticed the same thing this past week. I just noticed a clunk in the front end (drivers side) when turning right onto my street just before I got home here. This kinda worries me...thinking ut oh...more $$.

It has been a great vehicle...until now...when its NOT under warranty. So I am in need of a cheap solution as I have been unemployed for some time now.

From chatting with a friend who has connections to mechanics...their first thought was Encoder Motor.

Anyone know of a TSB or anything other?
Any procedures or checks I can look for myself to help analyze the problem such that I don't have to pay a dealship $85 just to analyze it?

Ok, so right now you're just starting to get the occasional front wheel "clunk"?
If so then you next move is to replace the transfercase fluid asap with the Autotrac II blue fluid available at most GM dealers.
After running it a 100 miles or so, change it again...it has helped unstick some parts inside the transfer case for most problems.
I've read it takes around 3 pints so 3 quarts should do both changes...all help gratefully accepted.

I had similar problems. It was the CV Joint.
