LOCKING PROBLEM

LOCKING PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS BROKEN BRACKET ON DRIVERS HANDLE. ALLOWED ACTUATOR TO FALL DOWN IN DOOR AND ALSO HAMPERED WINDOW MOVEMENT. REPLACED WITH USED HANDLE FROM SALVAGE ( DEALER COST $300 +, HAVE TO BUY W/ CYLINDER & REKEY ALL LOCKS). WORKS FINE NOW!

Re: Door Locks

the actuators do fail but the handle bracket is almost as common the problem on the L/F door. lots of usage of a poor design/material issue BMW sometime runs into.

Re: Door Locks

I am having the same problem with our drivers side door lock assembly on our 88 735i. I replaced the actuator with a new one, but the lock assembly will not engage to lock or unlock. The passanger side door lock will work manually but not with the key. The rear doors work fine with the key in the drivers door. Is there a relay that would cause this problem? Any help or suggestion?

Re: Door Locks

about the door problem, i have also heard of other possible culprits. 1) there is a rod in the assembly that breaks off, which if broken does not let the actuator engage. 2) the door handle itself breaks and there is no way of knowing until you disassemble it. i have not tried either of them, but it's all that i have heard about this problem. i hope it helps you. best regards.
