Mercedes McLaren SLR Roadster (Finally Finished!)

AF-ers,

I am back after a couple of months hiatus. This time I am sharing my old project which I started back in 2007. The end result is just okay for me, this is one of those get it done or throw it away kind a deal.

The original WIP: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=759767

Here are the completed pictures:

As you can see, I decided to do a dry CF finish.

Roll bar is from Tamiya S2000

Convertible top is scratchbuilt.

I lost most of the metal transfer, but happy enough to call this one completed. Thank you for looking, C&Cs are always encouraged.

Tham

I like how you've left a flat finish to the cf but I'm not liking the look of the rear of the car. It's as though it has a really fat ass . Great that you took the guts to modify the original though.

Great cf work all over! It's neat how you cant make out the cf pattern at some angles.

Can't understand why you're getting negative comments! I think your modifications are expertly done and the decal work is superb too. It looks like a stealth bomber! Nothing wrong with the shape in my opinion, it's a McLaren SLR without a roof!

Good job on the cf, i think it would look better cleared, but just my opinion. Thanks for sharing this stunning build.

I tried clearcoating the CF with Gunze Sangyo Top Coat, but the end result was not shiny enough. I actually put three coats of clear, polished, waxed and everything, but it still wasn't shiny.

So, I played around with Flat Clear and voila! no polishing needed and only two coats total. That ended my frustration for sure

Re: Mercedes McLaren SLR Roadster (Finally Finished!)

Cool idea and good execution! We all know how painful it is to apply CF decals that clean!

Good job!

I really like the matte finish, good choice on that. The S2000 rollbar works surprisingly well too.

Re: Mercedes McLaren SLR Roadster (Finally Finished!)

Panel lines is needed to give a more realistic look.. specially in this case that the carbon fiber is covering the lines.

But.. overall looks nice..
