that prolly wouldve been the smart thing to do, but from what i know, you can have an engine in the car as long its from the same year or newer, so if you have a 91 and a 91 engine then your ok, but if you have a 91 with an 88 engine, then you wont pass.

Not entirely ... you just gotta go talk to the rep ... I think there is one in sac but anyways, you tell em what engine you got and they give you all these legal plaques and change your vin and all that kind of shit ... talk to 'EF_LSVtec' about it, he has done this.

Long and short of a JDM engine.. You cant smog it in the US at all. Now if you can get a ref to over look the numbers and smog it as a b16 from a US car then you will have to have everything from a Stock car that had the engine orignally. The air box, the computer, all the sensors, the header, cat., and all the hoses going the same places the stock motor would have had in the orignal car it came from. Im doing a d16z6 turbo motor out of a 95 del sol and I have done all the research. I have been slowly buying and building up all the stock shit that came out of the del sol. Nice thing about Greddy turbos is they are Cali smogable so I got one for a 95 del sol now my car will have a full D16z6 in it with a turbo and the cops cant fuck with it.

Oh ya Melt they dont change your VIN they just put a metalized sticker on the right side firewall that has your vin and the type of motor. It has a california state issued number on it that will reference your vin if there is ever a ? on the motor you have in the car. That # car be referenced by cops to prove that you have a legal motor in your car.

Im not sure how it works in cali, but here in maryland we can just drop our cars to the ground, then the emissions place cant test it so they give us a 2 yr waiver. Its tight, dunno if it'll work in queer cali, but just a thought.

there wasn't an 88 B16A. 89-91 is the non-OBD JDM B16A. 90 was the first year for the 5 million series/SiR B16A too. just to clarify.

Or, you can just move to New Mexico!
We have no inspection whatsoever! None! At all! You can put a nuclear power plant in your Honda, we don't care!
