Upper Intake Manifold - Intrigue 98, Service Engine Light on

I replaced the upper intake manifold with new one but did not have the interior upper hose inside the manifold and had all ready tossed the old one. Car seems to run find but have service engine light one - did this hose do something for the MAP? I have service book but nothing is mentioned. Please help if possible. THANKS!

Re: Upper Intake Manifold - Intrigue 98, Service Engine Light on

The plastic tube is used for positive crankcase ventilation and technically should be installed. However, it may not be the cause of the code. Best thing to do is post the code (DTC) triggering the SES/CEL light so we know what may be causing it.

The missing tube should not affect the MAP sensor from working but you never know for sure.

Yes, Thanks. Code was P0107 which gives alot of different possible causes.

Definitely a MAP sensor related issue. MAP sensor circuit low input. Make sure the accordian seal on the MAP sensor is good and that you have the o-rings installed. The big one shown in the pic on the UIM and the one on the PCV valve. Also, check to make sure the PCM 5 volt reference signal is there at the MAP sensor electrical connector.

thanks for detailed reply. My accordian gasket had a rip in it so i ordered a new one. Could not find the tube for sale anyway - any ideas where i could purchase one? Thanks again for quick and concise replies.

I guess you can check with a GM dealership parts department or auto parts store. When I replaced the UIM plenum shown in the pic last month it came with a new plastic tube. The brand was Dorman.

I have the one off the old one I can send you.

I replaced it with no luck, any other ideas would be appreciated. Seems to run find but need to pass emissions. THANKS

You replaced the MAP/MAP Seal, or you put that PCV hose back in your UIM?

Re: Upper Intake Manifold - Intrigue 98, Service Engine Light on

Just so others know the tube/hose being referred to is seen in the pic below. It inserts in to retainers on the UIM gasket frame. The angled end fits in to a hole towards the right part of the UIM where the MAP sensor and PCV are located. I've never left one out so I don't know what the symptoms would be without one.

Also, note that bad LIM gaskets can cause the P0107 and/or P0108 MAP DTCs to set if replacement of the MAP sensor doesn't fix it. But you will normally see signs of coolant contamination in the part of the UIM where the PCV inserts.

Thanks.

I changed the MAP sensor and placed a 1/4"gas line hose to replace the tube you show in your picture. I use gasket sealant and had a good connection. I replace the LIM gasket a month ago and had no problems with error codes at that time. When I removed the UIM I did not notice any coolant but did have several some oil sitting in the LIM just below intakes to cylinders 2 and 4. Is this oil from the hose that connects in back of UIM and maybe the problem? Again, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Both - rig the hose but believe it should be near the original setup. Had some oil in LIM that I did not notice when I changed out the UIM originally. Any ideas? Thanks

No. That hose in the back of the UIM is for vacuum to the braking system booster and HVAC accessory. Plus it is connected to a one way check valve fitting. The oil sitting in the LIM runner area is coming in from the PCV system and before that the front bank LIM port gasket at cylinder 1. Also, sometimes the oil comes up through the LIM bolts from inadequate sealing. I use threadlocker and RTV silicone sealant on my LIM bolts. Normally the oil will collect at cylinders 2 and 5 where the hidden LIM bolts are located but it just stays there and will normally not be sucked up into the intake runners or cause driveability issues.

What brand LIM gaskets were used?

Felpro / Intake Manifold Gasket from autozone. Had to use sealant and interface of gaskets but seemed to work okay after installation. Thought all the problems was with this gasket but had a leak in upper manifold from small coolant leak/hole in plastic and that's why I changed the UIM and gasket - used the same Felpro for this one also. I did use sealant on the LIM bolts - so the oil shouldn't be the problem. Do you know if I can check electrical resistance in MAP doing operation to see if this is still related to the MAP?

Bob you think the PCV Valve could be bad causing the oil in his UIM?

Maybe swap out the PCV, its a cheap part and should be changed at tune ups. When you are there make sure the PCV has its o-ring installed.
