ABS failure
I'm having a problem with my ABS as of yesterday. The code is C1236 - Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Information Missing.
Would a failed speed sensor cause this? And if so, how hard of a job is it? I figure wheel will have to come off, but will I have to take the rotor off, too?

Re: ABS failure
The DTC is telling you the EBCM is not recieving a signal from the left rear wheel. There are several things that can cause that. Poor connection, broken wire, faulty EBCM, air gap too large, or a faulty wheel speed sensor to name a few. An ABS capable scan tool, a DVOM and a shop manual will be necessary to diagnose exactly what the problem is, without throwing parts needlessly at it.

Re: ABS failure
Try cleaning the wheel sensor ,and tooth ring with brake dust cleaner.

Re: ABS failure
I will for sure try cleaning, but my concern is that according to the code, it's indicating that the module is receiving no information from the sensor and not just invalid information.
Oh, and for what it's worth I did the J-mod the day before this started occurring. But I drove it that night and had no issues with it even in the heavy snow conditions. Traction control and ABS were both working fine.

Re: ABS failure
If the sensor is bad, there's a graveyard of parts for this type of car.

Re: ABS failure
Very true, but I read that the bolt holding this sensor in may be pretty badly rusted and usually breaks since I live in the rust belt.

Re: ABS failure
Just checked the codes again and now there's two codes relating to this.
In addition to the C1236 as I mentioned above, it's giving me a C1175 - Left Rear Speed Sensor Input Circuit Failure Would a failed sensor throw that code, or would it explicitly be a short/open circuit?

Re: ABS failure
You can change the sensor without rotor removal. Use the good ol' penetranting oil loosening up thing to aid in bolt removal. You may have to twist the sensor to get it out. Both codes will probably be cured with sensor replacement.

Thanks way2old. I was hoping you'd chime in on this one! I'll let you know how replacement goes and if it fixes the issue.
