has anyone came up with a good way to mount the front license plate on a 2004 Silverado? My 96 had a good bracket on it but this one has the point in the bumper.

Re: front license plate
Do you have a bracket to use and are looking for advice on getting it to fit properly, or are you looking for bracket that is supposed to be on your vehicle?
The part # for your truck should be P/N 12496895 - Front License Plate Frame Kit, there should be mounting holes already in place for a bracket for trucks sold in those states that require a front license plate. Another option might be a universal fit license plate bracket which should have different instructions for different applications on mounting it to your vehicle.

Re: front license plate
As stated above, Chevrolet sells a factory bracket (molded plastic) for the front bumper. I orderered one only to find that the hole spacing in the front bumper varies, possibly by year. Because I had replaced my front bumper after a collision with a deer a year ago ($450 factory GM), at some point they must have changed the hole spacing in the bumper. My 2005 HD originally had the holes spaced approximately 3" apart and the replacement bumper is spaced at about 6-7", these are the holes that a plate will bolt directly to. So the bracket I ordered (3"spacing) will not fit my new bumper and cannot be easily modified to work. It's no big deal, I can bolt the plate directly to the bumper, but I would prefer the look of a bracket.
