Arrow HOW TO: fix that unsightly rust hole in the wheel arch, check it out!

ok, here we have a civic with the common rusty rot hole in front of the rear wheel. We are going to repair the with no body work, very little money, and about 45 min to 1 hours worth of time. Not only will this cover up that hole, but add some protection to the quater panel.

So here we go, I looked around for a doner car that had the parts I needed. I found the 89=90 mazda MX-6 was the most likely candidate.
It has a rubber moulding just in front of the rear wheel, to protect it from stome chips an such. I went to the local junk yard and pulled them, from an 89. They pop off with a screw driver, ther is double stick tape, two clips in the wheel arch and three clips holding to the quater panel.
I test fitted them, good enough! Sold! bought them for $10.00.
cleaned them up with some all purpose claener, and took all the old tape off and cut the clips off the back. Once they were perferctly clean, i cleaned them again with denatured alcohol. also cleaned the area of on the car. I then used some 3M double stick tape, $5.00. lined the back of the panel. took all the backing off the tape and heated it with a heat gun to activate the glue. A hair dryer will work for this as well. Once nice and warm, i applied the panel to the car. once positioned correctly, i heated it again with the heat gun till it was nice and buttery. at this point you can mold it to the contour of the quater panel with no problem.
do the same for the other side and your done. check out the pics, have fun, and fix that hole!

Thumbs up Hey!

Sweet nice fix!

Plus it looks good, Damn I'll maybe do that to my CRX even though I have no rust that I have seen.

Thats a pretty clever idea, but I think id rather spend the money and get it fixed the right way. It looks alright though.

this is temporary solution, yill i can afford to get the car painted.
I sprayed a rust inhibitor on it, to stop the cancer.

Looks very cool I must say, but most rust is on the upper well not the lower.

I took some rustoleum flat black and sprayed all the rusty parts of my car such as in all the wheel wheels on the back. Perhaps that will make a nice barrier for water to have to get down. Not a fix, but perhaps will slow the process.

how much does it cost to have the body shop to repair the rust on the quarter panel, or in the wheel arch?
