Escort accelerates by itself
Hey guys..i have a 96lx auto
I was just driving home from work today, i'm so glad to be home after this. While driving on the highway my car started to accelerate by itself with out my foot touching the pedal, then the rpms would raise to 5 while the car sounded really loud and struggling to go. Then when i stopped at a stop light it died two times, luckily the 3rd try it started and made it home. Do you guys know whats going on?..could it be the transmission? THanks Chris..

Re: Escort accelerates by itself
Transmission might cause an RPM spike but not sudden acceleration.
Doing modifications to any vehicle is always potentially dangerous for a number of reasons. I suggest you start by undoing any intake, throttle body modifications. Re-obtain any original parts if you no longer have the original equipment. In the meantime, if you value the safety of others on the road, do not drive it. Get a rental if necessary. If you do risk it anyway, remember that you *CAN* turn the key to cut the engine. Your brake should also be powerful enough to override the engine. Be mindful of anyone that may be behind you. (as well as front of course) |

Re: Escort accelerates by itself
hey guys...thanks.. i already solved the issue..
It was actually one of the connectors on the bottom of the throttle body was loose. I still cant believe something that small can cuz so much mischief but since i tighten it back on..the car has been fine..
