Yamaha V-max - Aoshima 1/12

Hello again.
This will be my third bike - Yamaha V-max from Aoshima and photoetched set form Hobby Design.

I think it would be my goal

In the case of Aoshima kit is a lot of preparation and polishing

This is not tamiya but as a whole is not so bad

will be an interesting model

Wow, even without paint and glue it already looks like finished!

Re: Yamaha V-max - Aoshima 1/12

Nice start!

The biggest problem of this V-max kit is small engine. It's sort of nonsense.

The others are not such a big problem.

Re: Yamaha V-max - Aoshima 1/12

Is it that big of a difference to the1:1 kit? Does that count for all the v-max kits from Aoshima or are there some that's better?

Will follow this with interest!

Re: Yamaha V-max - Aoshima 1/12

I'd say you'd better do something...perhaps get another kit if there is one with larger engine. That massive engine block is one of the most evil looking things with the V-Max, know it almost looks like a Virago...

Of course. I think they are all from the same mold and no model has bigger engine.

I was disappointed with the engine very much when I finished this model.

I thought much about this problem and still think the engine is slightly small.

However,

What do you think of this picture.

I added some wiring and dark area on the above picture by photoshop.

Compare this picture with the above picture.

I think the engine looks smaller than it really is, because of the optical illusion.

I think you can improve it by enlarging this part of the engine and fill the space over the engine by adding wirings or something else.

I hope you can improve the problem.

Re: Yamaha V-max - Aoshima 1/12

Maybe I'll add in those places some wiring.

I started work
Washed Aoshima's chrome

and painted Gunze primer

next I added Gaia Color semi gloss black and start work with photoetched parts

I also add some alclad

Super masking job prior to that alclad paint Mboy. I always get bleeds when trying to mask complex areas like that...

Re: Yamaha V-max - Aoshima 1/12

I made some quick Photoshop wizardy to those two photos! The red lines are from YoungGun's original model, and the green lines are from the real thing. Hope you can get something out of it! To my eyes the model is looking almost the same as the real one! The engine is just correctly sized, and also the frame between engine and the seat. As YongGun stated, there is a difference under the frame, where there are some tubing in the real one, which prevents that see-through that is visible on the model.
The seat seems to be little too long, mainly the passenger seat.

Re: Yamaha V-max - Aoshima 1/12

Trevo Thanks for this picture. Now I know that engine size is ok.

On these pictures you can see that in this space are still additional elements which Aoshima was not done.

Never mind, you gave me two wonderful pictures of the real thing! Saved to my hard disk. There are amazingly few photos for a good reference of this really mean looking bike.
