auxiliarly pwr outlet problem

The passenger side auxiliary power outlet on my 2001 grand prix does not work. Ordinarily I would think that it is a blown fuse, but the console outlet still works and according to the owners manual, they share the same fuse. I checked the remaining fuses anyway, but they were all fine.

Any ideas? The wiring connections to the aux pwr outlet seem to be the next thing to check, but the aux outlet does not appear to be easily removed and the wires not accessible without substantial effort. I don't know how to take apart the dash and am not particularly keen on the idea.

Re: auxiliarly pwr outlet problem

Hi, to access the wires, all you need to do is remove the cover on the center console.

Its easy. Just open the arm rest, remove the insert, open the cup holders, and then use a large flatblade screwdrive to pry upwards on the center cover. Its help in place by I think 4 or 6 snaps. Thats it. Then you can get to the wiring of the aux outlet.

Are you sure it shares the same power source as the main cigarette lighter?

Re: auxiliarly pwr outlet problem

Thank you so much for the advice. You were correct, the console was super easy to take out.

Somehow the connection plug to the back of the aux outlet had fallen completely off!
