1:24 Tamiya Supra (another one :) )

so this is my second tamiya model, the first one was highly modified with lights, sound system, opened hatch, ect, i think this one i will just stick with engine mods to keep her as clean as possible, the paint i want to use i tested on a black xmod civic i had laying around so you can have an idea, here are the pics:

engine mocked up, you cna see the custom intake manifold w/throttle body

wastegate mocked up

custom aeromotive-styel fuel pressure regulator

the paint on this model came out a lot better then the last w/no streaks, brush strokes, or rough regions, im very pleased since this is my first time im using an airbrush

what do you guys think?

Very nice. I like the fact that you kept the turbo to a believable size. The paint did turn out quite nice in the engine bay. I will have to keep an eye on this one.

Re: 1:24 Tamiya Supra (another one :) )

thanks man. the turbo in my first build was quite larger, but still up to spec with some real life turbos some supras run, but those are like top end 1400rwhp cars..not the daily car im going for. hoping to get more work in tonite.

and i have no idea why my post went through 4 times??

Re: 1:24 Tamiya Supra (another one :) )

thanks!
i wasnt too happy with how the intake manifold came out where it connects with the throttle body.. i painted the intake too thick and it took almost 3 days to dry, lol, so thats why it looks a little ruf... next one i make i want to do it out of an aluminum sheet, that way it has a REAL polished looks to it... but thats on the next model thats sitting waiting (its a supra as well ).

well i got the fuel rail made and mounted, as well as mounting the fuel pressure regulator, only place where it didnt interfere with the hood is on the fender, but doesnt look too bad. im not going to run the fuel lines untill the engine is mounted onto the chasis. anyways, here you go:

yea the more i look at the color the more i dont like it... it was supposed to be a metalic red, but the little testors paint jars i have looked like they sat at the store for ever and all the flakes were stuck to the botom, so i used the paint thinner to get them out... i dont know if i thinned the paint too much and made it change the color like this or what... since the only thing i did so far was just paint the little black panels and mount the fuel pressure regulator i think i might respray it

oh and btw, i think that picture made the color look a lot more brown then it is... its really just a bit on the purple side, not brown.

but i'll keep you updated, i'll mess around with some paints today

Re: 1:24 Tamiya Supra (another one :) )

well here is an update, i decided to not be lazy and repaint the engine bay and engine cover, im GLAD i did. there is a WORLD of a difference. i just had to use lesser metalic flake from the bottom of the glass bottle... for some reason when you empty ALL of the contents from the little testors bottle it turns it a really dull purple metalic... weird.. maybe its just b/c of the cheap paint??

but anyways, but using just a little bit of the flakes i was able to achieve this result:
oh and i added the fuel rail with the look alike fittings as and put the FPR back on:

didn't you shake/mix the paint before you used it?

Re: 1:24 Tamiya Supra (another one :) )

thanks for the compliments guys.

this build should be fairly quick i think... besides doing the custom work on the engine/exhaust the rest of it should be reallyyy quick, not like my first one with lights and everything.

but i am already looking forward to doing the custom street version widebody sard supra, as well as a full drag supra that might resemble one of the big boy supras that everyone sees at the 1/4 mile

DrunkenMonkey, i tried mixing it... it was weird.. i thought i first added too much thinner... but no. the metallic flakes that sit at the bottom have a purple tint to them.. and the way that i got it to look really red above was to only scoop out about 1/4 of the mixture from the bottom.. its weird.. but i guess its what you get with using cheap paint ?

Re: 1:24 Tamiya Supra (another one :) )

quick update, i just got all of the models taht i will be building (3 of them, all supras , 2 tamiya and 1 sard, plus the first tamiya supra thats 95% finished)

so now i have a set of wheels for this model b/c i really didnt want to use the stock ones. i will use the sard supra rims with the tamiya tires instead of the slicks:

and here is a pic of the 3 current projects *left to right* ( drag race supra, widebody sard street supra, and tuned tamiya street supra)
