1999 Buick Regal starting issues

I have a 1999 Buick Regal and for the last few days the starter drags a little then starts, so I drove to work and turned it off and tried it and it clicked, turnrd the key off tried again and it dragged and started. I replaced the battery and it dragged then started so I thought maybe the new battery was not charged so I let it run for 50 min and then drove another 45 min in the mean time I had the old battery tested and it was fine and the parts owner thought when it gets hot then the starter is getting hot so when I got home and that when the car has been running almost 2 hours I turned it off and hit the key and it started right up. Then next morning it dragged and started so now I am lost. Also before I changed the battery the AC was blowing cold air and after changing the battery it blows only hot air. Any thoughts?

What model is this Regal?

Was the alternator/chargng system tested? What climate control system do you have? Manual dual zone or automatic CJ2 with the digital readout?

In My Past with this problem its most likely the Starter I bet it does it worse when its hot, and not so bad in the morning, or when the engine is cool.So i would say that should help you. So My opinion Replace The STARTER.. It will solved your Problem.

Re: 1999 Buick Regal starting issues

the AC blowing warm is a bug in this car when swapping batteries. You should always use spare battery connected to wires so the system never loses power or you can blow the AC control head (expensive fix). I never did get a clear answer on why the AC control head blows, maybe search more on this. I finally just removed the servo that controls the side that was blowing warm and rotated the rod that controls the flap so that it always blows cold (no heat really ever needed here in Tampa).

Are you referring to the manual dual zone climate control system or the automatic digital (ACC CJ2) system?

I have dual zone. I think it's the digital. My car is a 99 Regal GSE if that helps.

Re: 1999 Buick Regal starting issues

Naylor, here's the scoop on the AC blowing hot on driver's side and cold on passenger. My story (nightmare).....

I bought my 99 Regal GSE new and changed battery 2 years later (2001), blew the AC control module ($500), dealer changed under warranty with new and improved module. Two years later replaced battery (wired in a second battery in parrallel to avoid surges/sparks), AC control module went south again, complained to dealer, they charged me half ($250). 2.5 years later changed battery (wired in a 3rd battery in parrallel to avoid surges/sparks), AC module went out again. Totally fed up with this bullcrap issued, I just removed the driver's side actuator and now manually open and close it (rarely use heat in Florida anyway).

Batteries don't last long in the Florida heat in this car for some reason, I even tried wrapping the battery in foil insulation. I even bought the best available battery each time.

Below link sums up AC problem in detail.....

Re: 1999 Buick Regal starting issues

Problem ended up being cracked plastic intake manifold that flooded the intake with coolant. Very common issues with the 3800 series II engines. Changed it with new (Dorman $140) and she runs like a champ.
