Ignition Switch?

Ok, I'm already assuming my ignition switch is going bad or dirty, however I just would like some feedback to back up my suspicions. When I turn my blower a/c on, etc, my DIC and blower stops working intermittently and comes back on eventually. When I have the blower on high # 5 setting everything works fine with no interruptions. Is this a symptom of an ignition switch going bad? I've been pricing some ignition switches are they also called ignition modules? Any and all advice is very appreciated.

Re: Ignition Switch?

Before changing the ignition switch change the blower motor resistor. When they go bad the fan only works on #5 and that indicates that the switch is OK. They are available at the dealer and some places like Autozone carry them. It is located next to the fan up under the dash. It can be hard to get to but not hard to change. Taking the passenger seat out gives you better access. This is much cheaper and far less expensive and a lot easier to do. Once the resistor is changes I would expect the other systems to work properly.

Re: Ignition Switch?

Hi GTP Dad, I already replaced that with a AC/Delco resistor last year, so I know it's probably not that. My DIC goes out along with my blower so I'm leaning towards an ignition switch.

Re: Ignition Switch?

If it were mine, I'd throw the switch in there. I have heard of all sorts of blower motor issues in conjunction with DRL issues and HVAC issues due to a bad ignition switch.

However I would hate to tell you to change something and its not the problem (waste your money).

Re: Ignition Switch?

I would check the blower motor resistor wiring. I had the black ground and the orange B+ wire melt causing the blower motor to be intermittent. I had to replace the blower motor resistor and the female connector that connected to the resistor. Since I did that I have had no more problems with the blower motor.

Re: Ignition Switch?

Would bad wiring to my blower motor resistor cause my DIC to go out at the same time as my blower motor?

Re: Ignition Switch?

The DIC issues when the blower is set on 1-4 is a classic sign of a bad ignition switch.

That's what I've been leaning towards too. Thanks everybody..
