Hello guys,
how much would you pay? there is a discussion underway in another thread about parts/kit prices. I didn't want to hijack the thread. However, I am curious how much money each one of you (and your buddies active only on other forums) would be ready to part with for aftermarket parts/kits. I think there are a few questions to be asked and answered. Would anyone of you buy simplified resin kits, like "just body" or "just spoiler"?? There a many full detail kits available, but is there interest in going "back to the basics"? It would be really interesting to see how much money people are ready to part with for certain things. Full detailed multi media kit from Japan? Yeah... probably a couple of hundred dollars/euros, that's a given. But how about the small stuff? I remember that Chris (flyonthewall) sold his SAS parts as kits and individually, for reasonable prices. Please mouth your opinion on individual prices for these items and add to it whichever parts you think appropriate (please specify if USD or EUR!!!): A: 1x front spoiler/valance B: 2x side skirts C: 1x rear valance D: 1x rear spoiler or wing (may include additional rooftop spoiler) E: kit incl. 1x A, 1xB, 1x C, 1x D F: kit incl. 1x A, 1xB, 1x C, 1x D, plus decals G: kit incl. 1x A, 1xB, 1x C, 1x D, plus 4x wheels/tires H: 1x full body to modify existing kit (incl. lights, windows, mesh, decals...) K: 1x full body incl. 1xH plus additional parts like photo etch set, screen printed windows, etc. L: full detail multi media kit "all inclusive" (think: Hiro, S27, etc.) M: 4x wheels/tires I think there might be a lot more to add, but this could give the aftermarket manufacturers a general idea on how much they can ask for a set of resin parts / a kit and if it is at all feasible to think about producing it. You should take into consideration that there is a huge amount of cost involved upfront, before the manufacturer can even think about advertising or even selling the parts/kits. I dearly hope that a huge number of people give their opinions and support this thread. Both sides are going to have an advantage from this: the modelers because they have the opportunity to say what they want to see from the (mostly small) aftermarket companies. The companies are also going to be a lot wiser, and they can re-think their product portfolio and price list, leading to a more attractive and affordable selection of parts and kits. Please be aware that you specify prices w/o shipping. Shipping is a whole different topic and I honestly think that resin casters and PE manufacturers are not responsible for what the local post/mail/fedex/DHL prices. I am purposely not going to post any of the prices I think are suitable. It is you thread... make it big and all of us modelers will gain in terms of... well, just more ![]() Thank you for participating!!! Cheers Last edited by voyageur; 07-08-2009 at 04:47 PM. |

Re: resin parts/kits - how much would you pay?
Here you go:
A: 1x front spoiler/valance - 10 Euro B: 2x side skirts - 10 Euro C: 1x rear valance - 10 Euro D: 1x rear spoiler or wing (may include additional rooftop spoiler) - 5 Euro Before I continue, I have a question. What use to have 2xB = 4x side skirts?! E: kit incl. 1x A, 2xB, 1x C, 1x D - 30 Euro F: kit incl. 1x A, 2xB, 1x C, 1x D, plus decals - depending on decals 35-40 Euro G: kit incl. 1x A, 2xB, 1x C, 1x D, plus 4x wheels/tires - 42 Euro H: 1x full body to modify existing kit (incl. lights, windows, mesh, decals...) - 50 Euro K: 1x full body incl. 1xH plus additional parts like photo etch set, screen printed windows, etc. L: full detail multi media kit "all inclusive" (think: Hiro, S27, etc.) - 130 - 150 Euro M: 4x wheels/tires - if it's wheels + tires then 12-16 Euro |

Re: resin parts/kits - how much would you pay?
hi!! personnaly to depend the quality of the parts in fit and accuracy and also the quality of the casting. I see a lot of resin parts and full kit at a low price but with more buble than a Oreo chocolate bar on it. this is one of the worst thing that happen to us manufacturer to find other people selling this kind of piece of crap.
when a modeller buy a kit with this quality and pay the price... what ever the price is it's to expensive, he will not buy or will be very suspiscious to buy other resin kit. my philosophy is.... i will not sell a part that i will not buy myself. and to fix the price same rule.. what is the price i'm ready to pay for the parts or kit. of course i try to be the lowest as possible. but it's not always possible. anyway I hope you will like the new SAS products as well the original. thank's again Chris yours |

Re: resin parts/kits - how much would you pay?
too much. I probably will get that R8 still. But I just happen to buy stupid expensive stuff for no reason most of the time. The one resin kit that just might be worth, the MFH James Dean 550 spyder. $150. And definitely more for the $ than the R8. |

Actually I'd agree with his prices if he's thinking base kit plus item's a, b, c, and d.

Re: resin parts/kits - how much would you pay?
Talking about how much one would pay for something is irrelevant. It all depends for WHAT one would pay. I would pay $450-500 without thinking for an old, bad quality, curbside Q-model Dino kit, but I would never pay more than $200 for a much better, modern, much more detailed Hiro kit of the same subject with excellent decals for several liveries. It is WHAT, not how much.

I suppose we are talking about kits that are released or to be released, nothing rare or such.

Re: resin parts/kits - how much would you pay?
Same thing - if somebody really wants a transkit for car "A" and will pay $50 for it, another person having no interest in car "A" whatsoever will not pay anything for it. Hypothetical threads like that are pretty much meaningless IMO.

He is willing to know what people would pay, not what a certain person would pay. The answers if correctly interpreted statistically may provide good info for anyone interested. The thread isn't hypothetical it's rather a generalist one and I think it's pertinent to the model building world reality. |
