Is this a good buy?

I was thinking about trading in my 01 SE for 00 GTP.

http://www.vehix.com/inventory/Vehic...InMiles%253D25

I've never owned a GTP but there offering 1500 for mine and 3995 for theirs.
Is it possible that there could be something expensive that i might have to replace if there selling it that cheap?

Welcome to AF!!

Not a bad deal on the face of it but make sure you get a carfax report before you buy.

Re: Is this a good buy?

00 seems like a good year for GTP's. Before they started losing options (like the automatic climate controll)

Its your call, I've been having issues lately which seem to be coming to an end.

Someone has obviously done some modifications to this car, so make sure you look things over carefully because I'm sure at one point it had a smaller pulley.

Re: Is this a good buy?

Welcome to AF.

That's a good buy if the car is reliable. I would ask if you could take it to an independent shop to have it looked over, including a thorough scan of all possible codes (emissions, abs, trans). If all is good and the car doesn't look abused, I'd say go for it. Just remember with a GTP, you have to run premium fuel so if the added expense isn't in the budget, don't buy it. If you run 87 on a regular basis, you risk harming the engine due to knock if you're on the boost.

Re: Is this a good buy?

I've had my '00 GTP for going on five years and it's been the best car I've ever owned. I was really careful while shopping, took my time, and inspected every square inch before I purchased and I'm so glad I did. I've had my share of issues spring up, but nothing to break the bank.
If you do decide to purchase the car, my advice is to make sure to never put anything less than 91 fuel in it and make sure you keep up on the S/C'er oil. My mechanic told me he knew a guy that never checked his supercharger oil and one day it grenaded to pieces.
Before this car I had a Camaro and while it was fast, it just killed me on gas. The GTP is a good balance of speed and power and economy. I've really enjoyed it so far. Just make sure you are picky and careful. Cars that are raced usually never live long (trust me; I know! )
