Question Recommended fitment?

In addition to my "96 C4S, I have a nice low milage '98 BMW 540i. It is running on factory standard 16" wheels with 225/55/16's. Now is the time to take it to 18's and I am interested in a staggered arrangement (i.e. 18x8.5 front, 18x10 rear). The questions are will they fit, required offset and recommended tire size? Give me your best shot. Thanks
