Greddy MX fitment problem

I recently purchased a Greddy MX exhaust for a 1992 G20 and had it installed by a local speed shop (Triple Digit Motorsports in Newington, CT). The owner, Scott, warned me after installing the exhaust that part of it came in very close proximity to a piece of the suspension (didn't specify what exactly) and he had heard it clang once on the test drive, so to keep an ear out for it. In the past week since having it installed, the clanging has been constant, and I am very concerned about the long-term durability of the exhaust as a result.

So...has anyone else experienced this fitement problem on a Greddy MX exhasut? If so, how did they rectify it? Thanks and take care...

Hey, I dont have a solution to your problem although I wish i did, but i was just wondering how much the system cost you and how much extra power it gave to the car, i also have a 1992 and i was considering the same exaust system.

I paid $500 plus an hour of labor for installation. Power-wise it is tough to say as I do not have before/after dyno information, and before the stock exhaust had developed a leak at the flange. I just opted to have the Greddy put on instead of a OEM style exhaust as I already had a Hotshot header on there and figured it oculdn't hurt. Nice, mellow tone from it. If there was nothing wrong with my exhaust it would have been one of the last things I'd touch, after timing, intake and header. Thanks and take care...

Tranny, Y.O.U. A.R.E. N.O.T. A.L.O.N.E! This exact same bull...t happened to me. I have a 95'G20t and I bought a GREDDY/MX exhaust about a year and a half ago. I had my neighbor install it and I thought that was it. NOPE! The mid pipe or B-pipe rattled and banged the muffler portion against the rear axle. I then took it to my local exhaust shop who says this always happens and did not understand why people pay so much for these exhaust. To remedy this problem they heated my B-pipe and attempted to bend it away from the under body of the car. Now you know the piping is mandrel bent and coated to prevent rust, well this ment nothing cause they just heated one section then another instead of removing the damn thing cutiing in key places, welding it back together and reinstalling it leaving black scortch marks all over my exhaust. The other thing is that the entire muffler hangs to low, not much thought went into the design of the MX. It also sent crazy vibrations through the cabin of my car though it sound nice from outside. If I could do it again I'd send it back. I later had the muffler adjusted and they did a hack job and burnt a hole in the pipe attached to my muffler and never said a thing just patched it up. Tranny send it back, if you can. I am in the market for another exhaust. I really want the REMUS exhaust catback but they only sell the rear section for $325.00 So I now I plan to order the new 5ZIGEN/FIREBALL exhaust made for the INFIFNTI G20 91 THRU 97. The design is different and hopefully they did their homework and it's a direct fit. I currently have the GREDDY B-pipe STILLEN 4into1 header and a BOSAL/OE replacement muffler with welded chrome tip.
I plan to replace this later this month with the 5ZIGEN exhaust and RANDOM TECH CAT. The 5ZIGEN goes for $494.00.....GOOD LUCK!

Thumbs down

They don't care. I have a #800 number that I have called that I got from SE-R.net and the people there who answer the phone become annoyed or try and act like they don't speak english. I take it as a lost. Greddy like a lot of other performance companies throw their trash or should I say show very limited interest in NISSAN in America. I'm glad that NISMO will be stepping up there performance developement to reach a wider range this year and will truly be recognized by NISSAN (at least this is what Iv'e read recently let's see what happens.)

I thought the same thing with my MX. Although it's not the suspension that it bumps up against. If you look at the muffler, it's quite close to the stock muffler sheild. If you push on the Greddy with force you can mimic the bumping sound. I removed the sheild and MY problem was fixed. My car's lowered on some Intrax so if you have the Greddy bumping on suspenision either your car is really low or your struts are too soft. You might want to check the stock muffler sheild though.

Paradyme,

I'm considering purchasing the Fireball exhaust this summer. Who are you buying it from? Luke?

Bump, I planned on getting it from www.autocarparts.com because they advertised the 5ZIGEN FIREBALL catback at their website. Hey but if Luke can get them that's cool, maybe even cheaper who knows maybe a group buy. If so it would have to begin and wrap up real soon I plan on buying mine at the end of this month, 5ZIGEN also makes a BORDER III catback exhaust for the 91 thru 97 G20's (special order direct from Japan). I've been talking to a 240SX owner who has a 5ZIGEN FIREBALL exhaust. I just E-mail him to ask if the B-pipe was different on the 5ZIGEN different from OEM. He said yes that it was made straighter with less bends which is good if they do the same for the G20. Check out his Install pics.
