98 Regal Keyless Receiver Location

Does anybody know where the keyless entry receiver is on Buick Regal 1998 ? The locking function on my keyless remote works very rarely, although the unlocking function works (with some problems as well, - I have to press several (or many) times before the doors unlock). The sound and trunk functions work almost perfectly. So I guess, it is the receiver problem, some circuits probably have bad contacts... Need to find it though... Please help...

I'll double check the service manual but it should be located in the dash about the center area. It doesn't sound like the RCDLR module since the other functions on the keyfob work. Have you tried another keyfob or reprogramming the current one used?

Re: 98 Regal Keyless Receiver Location

Thanks for the reply.
I have just one keyfob but I am currently looking on eBay for another. As for your suggestion to re-program the current one, I will follow it with the hope that it will fix the problem.

I do not know what RCDLR module stands for, but I assume it is the receiver module. I thought it might be the culprit because
I found a post in the Regal forum at AF with a link to

http://www.w-body.com/service/keyless-entry.html

which says that the receiver module might be the cause of irregularities in the keyless functions. So I thought I would try to take a look at it... Maybe there are some connections needing resoldering... although if the module is under the dash, it is hard to imagine what would cause their corrosion or something like that....

Re: 98 Regal Keyless Receiver Location

I have a 2000 Park Avenue with memory. I was also having some problems with my remote fob. The lock function worked just fine. But when trying to unlock the doors I could be standing next to the car and I would have to hit the unlock function two or three times or more to unlock the doors. Also the drivers back seat cushion would have to be readjusted every few days because it would not hold its memory.

What I finally did was to unhook the car battery for maybe 10 minutes. I checked and cleaned the cable post contacts and hooked the cables back up. Now I don't have any problems with the remote not working. The back seat cushion stays where I set it and the doors unlock every time. I can stand a long ways from the car or next to the car and the remote works just fine now. Its been over one month and no more problems.

Before unhooking the battery make sure you shut off the auto temp climate control to the off position.

Re: 98 Regal Keyless Receiver Location

Thanks for the idea. I will certainly try it.
I have just tried to re-program my current keyfob as BNaylor suggested. I followed the instructions at

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=118687

The problem appears at step 8 : when I press Lock and UnLock buttons on the transmitter at the same time, instead of chiming twice after about 12 seconds (as it is supposed to ) it chimes three times after about 7 seconds, as if I just synchronized my transmitter. That apparently means that the programming fails. But I cannot understand why. As I wrote previously, the Panic and Trunk buttons work almost perfectly.

Re: 98 Regal Keyless Receiver Location

The RCDLR module is the remote receiver module and works in conjunction with the body control module. Try the easy things first like the keyfob battery and resyn procedure. If that doesn't work then replace the keyfob. It would be a bummer to go through all the hassle of replacing the RCDLR module and find out it wasn't the cause.

It was a wise advice. I replaced the keyfob and everything now works fine. Thanks a lot!
