Has anyone installed aftermarket radio themselves?
I want to upgrade my stock am/fm radio in my 1995 Escort LX wagon. I want to know if there's something out there that will snap in with no modifications of the dash or wires?
I am pretty handy and have the radio removal tool. |

those kits are complete for your vehicle; comes w/ a wiring kit so you just solder the plug to the aftermarket single-DIN unit & plug into your OEM harness... http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/FLM/Escort.html here's a pdf format just in case your wiring diagrams in that kit didn't come w/ it... |

Hi I installed a aftermarket sony deck in my car with a 12 cd changer. There is no need to solder wires together. You might have to buy a extra wire harness that’s about 15 bucks (FORD Premium Stereo Harness). This lets you link up the premium stereo wires and power connector in the escort to the corresponding wires to the aftermarket stereo. Its very simple. As you take out the stock stereo you well see to studs in front that well block any other stereo from going in. Since its plastic I just filed it down and now I’m enjoying an aftermarket deck. J Anther good idea is to replace the stock speakers, cuz you would not get the full effect from the new deck with those.

then plug the aftermarket unit directly into the OEM factory harness... but, chris, you don't need those plastic adaptors to make it flush to the console? if not, OP, then just go and buy the plug then... |

Re: Has anyone installed aftermarket radio themselves?
Go to www.crutchfield.com they will have a listing of the equipment that will work in your car. They will also set you up with a direct connect wiring harness that will connect to the existing OEM harness.
Give them a call.
