Re: Escort muffler
Just slilde the rubber hangers off rod holding the muffler on. I don't think hitting it with a hammer will help, but if it will make you feel better have at it.

Re: Escort muffler
If you're going to re-use them then you might can hacksaw the 'hooks' off. Then they should slide off.

Re: Escort muffler
when i had to do exhaust work, i used curse words sometimes for some of those bolts joining the exhaust pipes together are rusted solidly... out came a dremel tool w/ a small teeny weeny cutting disc!
as far as those rubber hangers go, they're the easiest part of the removal/re-install process... |

Thanks guys..i'll spray the rubber hangers with wd40 and see if they slip off. Also the clamp thats holding the muffler to the exhaust pipe is pretty much rusted it..i can probably spray some wd40 on bolts and get them off..hopeflly its not to rusted.. Everything else is pretty much easy..except i have to find a way to holdup the muffler with out taking it to a shop and having them welding on brakets and hangers..

Re: Escort muffler
If those rusty clamps don't free up the nut will usually just break off the 'bolt' part when you turn it hard. Time for a new one (well, d'uh!). My muffler blew out yesterday. We had lived in Utah two Winters ago where they salt the roads. After every winter storm I faithfully went to a car wash that sprays the bottom of the car. Well apparently salt got on the top of the muffler and stayed there because that's where it blew out. Sounds like a race car now and I'm sure my neighbors are really impressed.

lol cars that have muffler holes never sound nice..yea i'm just going to buy anther clamp. Its cheap only $3. But i still have to find a way to hang the muffler since the hangers dont even line up. Hopefully I can find a strong pieace under my car thats not rusted out to make some holes to hold it....any suggestions? Thanks , Chris

Re: Escort muffler
When I used to work in a garage we used 'universal exhaust hangers' that we got from NAPA. It's a clamp with an adjustable bracket and a rubber mount.
Yesterday I took my old muffler off. Just for the heck of it I started it up with the 'muffler' off. Was not noticeably louder so I left it off. I put the elbow back on to route the exhaust out the side. It'll do for now. Item#: EXH36272

Interesting where on the muffler does this hook up on to?..is it the tail outlet pipe?..For the long end would i have to drill holes in the car..then it can be mounted and it would hold the muffler by itself?...

Re: Escort muffler
Hi i just got my muffler installed by Midas.
I just want to confirm with you guys, that they have installed it correctly. Is the center inlet supposed to be installed towards the engine or towards the rear? When i installed it before i installed it towards the engine and heard the toned sound, now they installed it the opposite way and i'm not getting any toned sound at all.
