Amp Gauge question

ok i got a Sunpro 2 1/2" Amp gauge and wanna hook it up but dont have anything other than the gauge cuz I stole it from my brothers cab he rolled lol, i'm gonna make my own custom mount prolly but i need 2 know how 2 hook this up first so I can monitor my battery to make sure i'm keepin a good charge and stuff, so do I just run a wire from the positive and negative on the battery to the back of the gauge? or is there more 2 it? and what kind of wire do u suggest using? because i have a bunch of left over speaker wire i could use if I have to
any help would b great! thanx guys

ok 1st things 1st you gotta shut off the flux capacitor, then you take a screwdriver and the wire and lay the wire on the battery terminal and smack it with the screwdriver and your all set :smoker2:

I think the volt gauge would go to the alt b/c when the car is running, the battery is pretty much useless, unless you have an amp hooked up to it.....once the car starts everything runs off of the alt.

how about hook one side up to a key switched circuit in the fuse box so it only comes on when the car is on like all the other gauges

yeah the autometer instructions say to hook to a switched wire like one from the back of the ignition switch and the other to a very goo engine ground, it even sais to run it through the fire wall to get to the block for a ground, i think thats a little overkill. but hey thats y they get payed the big money

Quick wiring lesson. The wire to the alt is always hot. Look under the hood and follow the wire from the battery to the underhood rfuse box. The alt wire is on the same block as the battery wire, so the battery will see the same power as the alt, which should be about14.3-14.4 volts. Take regular shielded wire, not speaker wire, safety first, and put a switch on it. By wioring it into the igintion switch, you are dawring power from other parts that need it and your car amy shut off intermintly.
